syncing sl-5500 (rom 3.10) with windows xp.
« on: November 04, 2003, 08:16:11 am »
righty, i managed to get a z in the end.

just installed the intellisync software so i can sync with outlook - then as it instructed - let it install the usb drivers n stuff.

i have setup intellisync to do everything bar email.

now, i havent setup the \"network\" in the z cus i presumed this was for if you have a cf lan card or wireless card.

if i go to the pc link program on the z it is set to use usb - i/o (default) and greyed out at the top it has hostname / ip address.

now from my pc - (i havent changed the network connection that installing the z creates - thus it has no ip address) i can \"ping\" the greyed out ip address off the z...

if i give the network connection on my pc that the z created an up address in the same subnet as the z\'s default one i can stll \"ping\" it.

in the intellisync software the communications are set to usb and the ip address is correct.

now heres the problem - if i use the \"sync\" from intellisync from my pc, nowt happens - just says place the z in the cradle and press ok.  goes greyed out about 10 secs later it comes back sayin place in cradle and press ok.

if i use the sync start on the z in the pc link bit - it comes up with a communication screen with a cancel button on it.  left it on there for over 2 mins - nuthing.

if i press the sync button on the cradle, same screen comes up - but nothing happens!

have i missed summin somewhere?  cheers.

I actually had the incorrect software versions.  I was using old sync software with a new ROM.

Once I matched the two up - I have had no problems whatsoever.  And thats even with a few re-installs of XP.  Just seems to work flawlessly.

I have just ordered a Wireless CF card for it, however, to match up with my new Wireless router.  That should be fun!  Hopefully that should eradicate the need for the cradle - and also make \'net access nice and simple.

Post specific problems - and I\'ll try and help if I can - but as I say, as soon as I matched the sync software with the ROM software - it has worked beautifully!

okay, I have a fix for some of the problems folk have seen. Having had the same problems as everyone else on this thread, I\'ve re-installed everything on the Windows side (XP Pro / Outlook XP). Same problem still...

BUT, I can get it to work partially - syncing of contacts works. I discovered by accident that the sync only fails when I have the sync of calendars selected. I can select Contacts, Todos and Notes and the Sync works!!

Also, in the log file I found on the PC in the (in C:Program FilesSharp Zaurus 2Intellisync for ZaurusPtTrace.log) I see this:

16:47:35.273:
16:47:35.288: End ILX Session, elapsed time =  14.599 seconds

Right I think - time to clear everything down on the Zaurus side:
cd /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm
rm -rf *

Problem: Now Calendar and Contacts are bust on the Zaurus - they exit when you try to create a new item.

Solution: Reboot. Blank set of files get created in the dtm directory. Contacts and Calendar working again.

Still get the API problem though. Log file looks a bit different though. Looks like it might be a problem with Outlook XP now though:

18:40:36.502: Finished Reading 0 Records + 0 Deletes + 0 Unchangeds for User=ILDATA from Zaurus Calendar (slow sync input for resync)

Also, in C:Program FilesSharp Zaurus 2Intellisync for ZaurusILDATAIS4SL.log:
You can see that it has read items from my Outlook calendar, but it ends:

Internal Error #4238.
Translation Canceled!

I wonder if the problem is the lack of support for Outlook XP/2002 in this version of Intellisync? Is this a common factor in everyone\'s problems?
