Slc3k+angstrom-several Questions_soft_lan_usb_and_others!
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:38:55 am »
Hello!   After several unsuccessful attempts to activate my usb devices, I decided to install another OS.

Now, I am with the Angstrom in its newer version. Once the start I fell in love with him, but I have several questions with respect to the OS.

System Details: SLC-3000 Angstrom (New Version)

Questions:

Basic:

What are the types of applications that can install in angstrom?

Where can I get them?

What are the essential package of applications of Angstrom?

Installed some applications, they have settled, but was not added any icon on the desktop! Why?

Advanced:

I am using Buffalo Wli-CF-S11G card to access internet, it was automatically detected, attempts to communicate (LED power and link active) but not with any response. Sender my WiFi and FON (La Fonera) 100% Ok! What may be happening?

Still can not activate the mouse, or rather active, but can not see the mouse pointer! I need to install a library of icon?

There is some automounter CF / SD / USB for Angstrom?

I doubt the extra! But any help will be welcome!

Thank you very much!

I am not sure, which image you use. I use development GPE image, so I am answering for GPE image.

What are the types of applications that can install in angstrom?
These that can live with 64MB of RAM, CPU without FPU and small screen.

Where can I get them?
Angstrom distribution feed (predefined), my feed (in my signature; the same source tree, possibly different package list).

In console as root: opkg update ; opkg list (network must be working)

It depends on your need.

GPE startup uses deprecated way to locate icons. Applications that are not adapted will not appear. I wrote a small utility to fix it (run in console as root; I will place it there soon).

Try commands like iwconfig, ifconfig and route to check, what is happening and follow standard Debian networking howto.

It's not bug, but a feature provided by xcursor-transparent-theme package. Change your cursor theme or uninstall this package. (I never tried this.

No. There is udev mounter, enabled by default.

Sorry! I forgot that great detail. Thanks for the answer anyway, certainly will be of much use.

My system Zaurus:

SL-C3000 Rom 1.11JP
Kernel v.2.6.2.4
OS-Angstrom - Opie v.1.2.3

Sorry if I forgot something again!

These answers are not valid in Opie: Applications (must work with fbdev, X applications do not work), icons in menu, mouse pointer, not sure about automounter. Remaining answers are probably valid for Opie image as well.
