Pdaxrom Rom's Getting Hard To Find?
« on: July 30, 2010, 11:45:28 am »
...anyway, wanted to say that I have found (somewhere, page since forgotten) the base build for Menaie's latest pdaXii13. Anyone is welcome to a copy if they need it, just send me a message. Adding applications may be tough, as I can't find a single working feed any more for that particular flavor. Does anyone know if ipkg's from earlier flavors of pdaXrom will install and work OK in pdaXii13 ???

I also have a full install of an earlier pdaXrom flavor, that a kind seller of a Z on Ebay zipped up and sent. Thanks greenwirenet. Again, let me know if you want it, alternatively it's hosted temporarily on rapidshare: http://rapidshare.com/files/409360675/pdaxrom.zip

It's been a while since I was looking at ROMS... What the difference between pdaXii13 and pdaXrom?

I've been running Cacko since forever, but I recently realized that a couple of my most used IPKs no longer work (like music player), which is really odd..  So I figure it may be time for a re-blast.

Years ago I got an excellent deal on Textmaker for the Zaurus. It installed fine, worked well.
A couple of years later, after a system rebuild, I tried to install it again, and it complained of "incorrect characters in the name". Nothing I changed the offending characters to mattered, it simply wouldn't install.
Fast forward another couple of years, and I thought, well, let's try again. No changes, stock install on the exact same (Cacko "heavy") ROM, and it installed perfectly.
Still can't figure that one out ;-)

BTW, differences between the flavors of menaie's ROM's can be found somewhere in these pages:

BTW, while following the link you posted, I came across this info, so I thought I would note it in this thread.

According to:
http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/mirror/pdaxii13.html

Excerpt:
"Below is a list of pre-installed applications that are part of the pdaXii13 full installation. The following packages are in addition to the applications installed by the default pdaXrom beta3. These applications are not all pre-installed on pdaXii13 base.
[...]
There are many more packages beside the ones on the official feeds. Many user contributed packages exist and can also be installed. beta1/beta3 packages are compatible with pdaXii13. Some packages for pdaXrom beta4 and r121 will also work on pdaXii13 but be careful with those since some can also break pdaXii13 due to library version incompatabilities."

I'm currently reving up to port some of the software used to work with the RepRap machines to run on the 6000 and 3100 running pdaXrom.  Just wish I could find my CF MicroDrive.

Did you ever get a chance to post your newer versions of the dev tools?  (for example, autoconf)

thanks,
Christopher.

Don't blame the Zaurus. Seems to me folks just kept developing/breaking the basics over and over for some new kernel or other and forgot what a fantastic little machine they had. I have an Android Tablet now and just plain hate it.

So have dusted off my Zaurus again. Had Cacko rom on it for a while, but am now trying PdaXrom Beta1.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri...oad/1.1.0beta1/
and
http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/p...oad/1.1.0beta1/

I think that after that version things went downhill for me. I tried pdaXii13 on my c860 back then but seem to remember that even when I found out how to fix stuff for the screen/pointer going odd, that if I ever dropped out of X the commandline was scrambled, so I don't think I'll go there. But if you have a later model:

Hey, thanks for those links!  In case anybody missed it, the result of surfing those sites yielded the following:

pdaXrom beta3 feed for Zaurus clamshell models
     http://members.iinet.net.au/~wyso/myZaurus...13/feed/custom/

A real pdaxrom feed!  I will not be changing to pdaxrom but I will be using some of those links to give folks links to pdaxrom versions of some apps I have pages about.

OK - for the hordes out there still wanting to play Marathon on the Zaurus. You need the alephone ipk hosted here:
http://www.zaurus.org.uk/download/pdaXrom/capnfish/feed/

Think you might also have to install Mesa3d if I remember.

Thank you Capnfish!
