Only 3 questions...
« on: March 27, 2004, 12:31:08 am »
Hello all,

I LOVE my new 5600.  I just have a few questions.  I apologize if I am asking questions that have already been asked, but I have used the forum search to look for such posts, and found nothing.

1.
Is there a way to fast-forward within a song using media player?
2.
Is there a way to force a Hancom spredsheet to show hundredths (0.00) place precision for all entries within a given column?  I have tried selecting the entire column, and going to CELLS in the FORMAT menu and changing from GENERAL to CURRENCY, and then selecting the 0.00 (non-red) option.  The formatting is applied to cells with information already present, but is ignored when inputing new data into the column.  This seems to be a precision display problem because the calculations are all correct to the cent (I am using this spredsheet for a budget).  I have tried this with both a version of the sheet saved as an excel sheet, and one saved as a Hancom sheet.  I have set my column widths th 12.4.
3.
Does the physical keyboard have the ability to type a period (.) without remapping?

Regards and thank you,

newmsubob

Welcome to the Zaurus!  Always happy to see new users!

Here are my answers:

1.  Unfortunately, no.  Others may be able to tell you if there is a different media player you can install that has this ability.

2.  This is a bug in Hancom Spreadsheet, I don\'t know of any workaround.  It annoys me, too.

3.  ??? On my 5500 the \". :\" key types a period when unshifted.  What is yours typing?

tkcPlayer is an excellent mp3 and ogg player and will allow you to seek as you need. $9.95 I think, well worth it, looks good too.

I just tried Handcom Sheet 1.5 formatting. I tried the number format for 0.00 and currency format for \"$\"#,##0.00 and both preserved the correct formatting for cells, either ones that had entries or empty cells tht I typed new entries into. I selected the column by tapping on the column letter, then selecting the format. This seems to work correctly here? Maybe you are using a different format selection?

And the \".:\' key type a period just fine on my machine...

I also use tkcPlayer for ogg & mp3. Works great. BUT (and someone out there will love this ;-)  ), it does have a problem with some specific files. I never did get the time to investigate further, but it looks like it has trouble with certain encoding rates and will play the file at half speed. It\'s possible xmms might have the same problem as they use the same libraies as far as I know? Other than that, it\'s a great player...

Yes, I have verified that RichS, someone here asked me to test a file for them which had been resampled to 22050 as opposed to 44100Hz, this resulted in double-speed playback.

But for nomally encoded, incl. VBRs of all shapes and sizes, it does work very well.

Hello all,

Media Player - I have discovered an application called OTR Audio Player (Old Time Raidio).  It supports MP3s and OGGs and even has a pitch option.  There are a few bugs in the program (the display dims and even after quitting the app does not return to normal, so I had to set my display dim time to 1800 seconds).  But you can\'t beat the price (free).

Speadsheet - I too am using Hancom 1.5.  I neglected to note (as RichS discovered) that the formating does SEEM work.  However, if you save the spreadsheet and then reopen it, any empty cells will be in the GENERAL format despite having been formatted in currency (0.00 black).

Period (.) - I would loose my head if it wasn\'t attached.  You all were correct of course

Any new advice/observations would be welcome.

Regards and thanks for solving my (.) problem,

Robert
