What difference if any is there betwen the c760 and the c860.  Form what I read there both the same hardware, so does that mean I can use Open Zaurus for the c760 on the c860?

There is no practical difference between a C860 and a C760 besides the paint job

amrein,

If you are talking about the NAND backup (SYSTC860.DBK) then yes, you have to rename it to SYSTC760.DBK for the C760 to recognise it.
After the NAND flash, your service menus will be red - don\'t know of they are normally red on the C860 or not. Also then you will need to use the C860 updater.sh as your machine will be identified as a C860.

If you are talking about the backup done with backup/restore app then yes again, just rename the file again.

If you are talking about other roms, then most probably will aslo work.

Am I understanding this correctly?  If the hardware is the same \"except for the paint job\", can I simply purchase the somewhat cheaper 760 and use the updates ROMS and actually have an 860?  :!:  :?:

You see, by reflashing you can\'t get better video chip that 860 has, but you can use your 760 as a flash drive (or maybe card reader) just like 860. Just reflash to pdaX ROM and you\'ll get it plus many additional features.

I didn\'t realize that the 860 has a better video chip than the 760... can anyone confirm this with technical specs of both?

They both have the ATI W100 (as does the C750 I think).
Otherwise you couldn\'t use the kernel for the C860 on the C760 (and you can).

If you have supporting documentation showing that the C760 and C860 have different graphic chips, I\'d love to see it cause everything I\'ve been able to find in English or Japanese says they both have the W100.

Sorry you are wrong, the C760 and C860 have identical NAND chips - exactly the same size and model.

All C models have ATI W100 chips, even C700.

Sorry, that was the type of display. Display of C760 is TFT CG-Silicon and display of 860 is transreflective one (you can use it outdoors, when the sun is up)... Someone misinformed me about video chips...

Display is supposed to be the same too. Only the newly released 6000\'s have the tranflective screen (which can be read outdoors).

I think that stat is wrong too.
