claim refund from Microsoft?
« on: March 31, 2004, 01:22:12 pm »
I don\'t know how legit this is, but I\'ve heard radio advertisements lately for mymsclaim where you can get a refund of up to $100 for Microsoft purchases from 1995 to 2001.

So I went to the site this morning, and completed the form/process, even paid the $19.95.  (It may be a scam, and I\'m probably a sucker!)

After completing the online process, it gave me a confirmation number (probably useless), and gave a link to a pdf doc to fill out (with the same information that I filled out via the site), and provided an address to mail the completed form to.

My point in posting this is that I can\'t see why anyone (must be a California resident) can\'t just complete the pdf form and send it in without going thru mymsclaims and paying the $19.95...   so I\'ve attached the blank form (had to make it a zip file to attach it) and the address is below.

I\'ll post a follow up note if I actually receive any money...

Mail completed form to:

offroadgeek, it was a legitimate court settlement claim for California residents.  No, you didn\'t need to spend any $$ in order to make a claim -- Microsoft sent forms in the mail (I received about 8 forms, owing to the products I had registered), or you could obtain the form free from their web site (I have the address at home, if you\'re interested).  However, I believe that the deadline for filing for the rebates was March 15.

Wasn\'t this the claim issue which Lindows took over by opening a website which would essentially give you a free copy of Lindows if you filed your claim thru Lindows ?

But I guess Miscrofot took them to court saying they couldnt do this on the users behalf (it was a online claim submission too), and the courts show down the Lindows efforts.

I got the forms a while bback but never filled them out ... The only M$ products I ever bought were bundled .... so I didn\'t feel it was worth it.  Besides I beta for them ... so I was like hmm nah I don\'t wanna join the class action suit against them even if i\'m not a fan.  As to Lindows -- basically they just took your claim in exchange for their products.
