Problems with Abiword, xpdf and siag
« on: April 01, 2004, 11:18:35 am »
Okay, after finding out that there seems to be a limit on the size of the root partition from http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.ph ... pic&t=2071 , I had to install siag onto /mnt/card (which is still FAT), and then create simlinks into /usr/local/bin to /mnt/card/usr/x11r6/bin where the binaries for pw, siag, etc exist.

Now siag (speadsheet) seems to be very problematic, whenever I try to open a file, the file browsing window that pops up doesn\'t like to accept my click on the OK button (nor the Cancel or Help). The only way is to close the window via \'X\' in the top right. Basically, this means I can\'t open files! It\'s the same with Pathetic Writer.

Now Abiword is installed in /, since I felt that was more important to have in internal memory. But still, I have problems importing any file. MSWord docs that would open in Hancom Word would come out as garbage, and text files just appear blank. also, when you type text, you get every word unlined in red as if the spelling itsn\'t correct. Now I think my English is good enough to type out some words that have correct spelling, but when I try and launch the spellcheck tool, it then just bombs out.

(Sigh), last point is that xpdf will draw out graphics but no text!

Any pointers on any of these issues here? I\'ll try and submit bug reports if nobody has any clues.

Since root has a size limit, the rest is setup as /home.  I created a /home/local and linked it to /usr/local.  This allows me to install applications in /usr/local without needing to be on a FAT formatted card and also use the internal RAM to its fullest.

I just realised that the standard GUI package manager gives you the option to install to /mnt/user, and by default that is a sym link to /home/user.

I prefer to install all new packages just at /mnt/card on my SD, so there is /mnt/card/usr ...etc.

bvv:

can you elaborate about the paths you are adding and why they are necessary?
