That (stanford.edu) url is for HFS, not HFS+.

HFS filesystem support is in the kernel, it only needs to be enabled and kernel recompiled.

HFS is the ORIGINAL macintosh filesystem.  HFS+ is something newer, in OS 9 and OS X, and used on the iPod.  I already have HFS (and ISO9660 and my portable USB CDRom mounts), and that works, but HFS is useless for reading HFS+ partitions on my iPod.

Thanks, I figured that out after reading more carefully...

I got my 80gb back... I have tried lots of stuff... but I can\'t get it to do anything.  I need the module block-major-3.  can\'t find it anywhere.

To read a hard drive, you need to insmod:

usbstorage (there may be an underscore I\'m missing here).
scsi_mod
sd_mod

and potentially some others.  USB mass storage is SCSI over a wire.

Where did you find the modules?

I am assuming they came with the packages that are linked previously in this forum... I have about 700 ipkg\'s though.. probably about 1/3 of them actually work.

I am running a special kernel (not sure which one) and zynergy... hate it, but it works better than oz.

I wrote a script to load the required modules and mount my desired drives... I named it S50sdamount.sh chmod 744 and copied it to /etc/init.d/ then symlinked it to /etc/rc2.d/

it works.. but for some reason it says my partitions are not valid block devices. I don\'t understand why it does this.. I can run the script again once I am in opie and it works fine.

but for some reason the mount points are not scanned by applications such as aqpkg and the doctab.  It only does this when I boot off the SD.

any input would be nice...

Without seeing a dmesg or other diagnostic, it probably can\'t find all the pieces at first scan, i.e. it doesn\'t have the filesystem, or the CF/PCMCIA chain isn\'t loaded so it doesn\'t see USB yet (although the device files may be in /dev and the scsi chain loaded).  Until the USB is enumerated, and usbstorage is up, you won\'t see anything.

dmesg should be revealing, but a lsmod ]/home/tmp/checkpoint1.log... at points might also show something.

it did eventually work... the drive must be spun up, then the cable attached, then the z powered on.  I was unable to test suspend and resume... very bad things happened :/

- write your own scripts! lol
