What's positive about that new forum is that it will give more exposure to the Gemini, hence more potential new users. I don't like however to see the community split between many forums and social networks, but that happens with every community, different people have different choices and preferences. I'll start following that forum too and I'll repost here any interesting info/news that will be posted there.

I understand, Varti. XDA however has a huge userbase and outreach, and it's pro's outweigh the con's by far IMO.
I'll post a link to the other community efforts (OESF, Gemini Planet, FB) in a thread there as well!

I too worry about fragmentation…  (In fact, I'm moderator of a Planet-related forum over on CIX, plug plug.  But so far it's fairly small-scale.)

A quick look suggested that XDA doesn't support RSS/Atom.  How do people get informed of new posts?

XDA supports RSS for news feed and 'latest active topics', not for specific threads.
You can, however, subscribe to any subforum or thread and you (can choose to) receieve a notification of new posts/threads, either via mail, in-site or in-app.

Once you sign in, you'll have a menu showing all subscribed threads/forums and latest messages.
Additionally, at the top there's a notification counter showing counters for PM/quotes/mentions/DevDB updates.

You can subscribe to forums or to individual threads, and get notification by daily or weekly email (or instant email for threads)

I just spotted this and deleted my own post on the matter.

I see that XDA has finally woken up to the existence of the Gemini.

But we're all happy here, aren't we... No adverts, friendly people, the odd celebrity!

No offense taken...we just want a chance for discussion to start here on XDA. If people see all the other links, they will be unwilling to start threads and development here. Thanks for understanding.

I had a similar message about my post containing useful links. It's a bit childish IMO, but there's not much we can do.
For me, the endgame looks like XDA will contain all (or the lion's share) of development as that's just what it's made for, and OESF will provide all other forum needs.
I'll mention OESF (without posting links) there whenever I can  And same for XDA here. They'll have to co-exist somehow..

We can keep Linux development here, XDA have never been very good at the side of things. I've been active on XDA since... well since I owned an XDA phone! They need to remember their humble beginnings. If this is how they behave now then I have no problem boycotting them

Thanks to all of you for all your kind words  Rest assured that we’ll never block any link to any other forum, as long as it’s on-topic. I don’t really want to start any “war” with any other forum; our forum was usually mostly Linux-oriented (although we of course welcome any discussion about other OSes) so I think that both us and XDA’s subforum can co-exist peacefully.
