Magisk modules installation?
« on: May 06, 2018, 07:12:28 pm »
Has anyone had any success installing Magisk modules?

I am trying to install this module for an ad block hosts file but it fails with a pretty unhelpful error. Weird that this doesn't just work since Planet recommends installing Magisk Manager to finish rooting the device...

i havent tryed the addon but you could try AdAway for this job: https://f-droid.org/packages/org.adaway/
OpenPandora, Jolla C, BQ M10 fHD (ubports), MacBook Pro Retina (mid-2012), Zaurus SL-5500, OpenMoko Freerunner, Geeksphone Keon (ffOS 2.x), a few Raspberries, too many game consoles and Android devices,...

... and soon: Dragonbox Pyra, Librem 5

I ended up installing Steven Black's full combined hosts file, it seems to not impact performance at all so far. Only problem is that it isn't automatically updated. I might setup a Termux startup script or Tasker job to do an update automatically. Not sure if something like the plugin you linked would be better though, I may have to give it a try if this file doesn't seem to block enough ads.

Slightly off topic, have you had success with F-droid? I haven't tried any alternative APK sources yet, they sort of worry me a little bit.

Hmm the Android installer wasn't able to read F-droid's main APK file, that seems odd.

strange,... maybe try to redownload it (or an older version)?
but you dont need the packagemanager itself. the apps can also be downloaded directly from fdroid.org
