Gemini app bar installer?
« on: June 13, 2018, 08:19:20 am »
I can't seem to find the Gemini app bar on the Play Store - any idea where I can download it? I couldn't see it on the planetcom.co.uk site either.

Found it here: http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Troubleshooting
Note that I had to launch the .apk file from File Manager to get it to install.

Gemini app bar installer?

That did not work on my Gemini.

Neither did downloading it via Chrome and stock browsers.

Nor transferring the download apk from laptop to Gemini.

Every failed re-installation attempt generated the package is "corrupt" error message.

Planet NOW thinks the app bar needs updating. DOH!

Without the app bar, forced landscape viewing does not work for many apps.

P.S. To Hades with Planet's omnipresent, shite app bar and losing (because one uninstalled it) the Gemini's force-landscape function.

UPDATE 1: Perhaps consider the following ONLY IF you uninstalled Gemini's app bar AND lost forced landscape function.

Check out this free apk "Set Orientation 2018" here: https://ln.sync.com/dl/21d6c35c0/6xys85fx-7...jtueaa-qwfw79q9

I prefer downloading apks to my laptop and transferring them to Gemini's Download folder. Then installing it via File Manager.

TIP: disable / deselect Gemini's landscape setting (sometimes shown in the top notification strip). And try your portrait viewed apps with that apk's various landscape mode options.
I found that Landscape (Sensor) works best.

Cheers.

-------------------------

UPDATE 2:

With the setting Security>Unknown sources>ON, I uninstalled all third-party / Play Store apps, including the Nova (Prime) Launcher and Symantec Norton Suite among others. That returned my Gem to near-factory configuration of apps but still the fooking AppBar apk did not reinstall. Two grayed-out icons (appbar and notes) show on the desktop but say, when tapped, "App isn't installed".

Planet is now befuddled as they blame third-party apps for the app bar's failure to install predicament that the above tedious, methodical process now disproves their (flawed?) premise.

They say "The "corrupted" error you are facing is not normally present during the installation process, this is only observed in 1 out of 20 attempts to install it. In addition, anti-virus software would sometimes attempt to corrupt everything downloaded outside of the Play Store if you have one running. What I can guarantee, however, is that the issue is most certainly software/conflict related."

Nonsense. The undeniable fact is Planet's custom configuration of Gemin's Android OS, in which the wonky app bar is integrated, is dysfunctional and not ready for prime time.

TO SUM UP: We Gemini backers / users are Planet's weary pioneers. Their guinea pigs, if you will. Nevertheless, this adventurer's backside - impaled with troubleshooting arrows - feels more and more helpless and alone in the wilderness that is owning a Gemini.
