Screenshots of Gemini Home Screens
« on: August 12, 2018, 03:45:29 pm »
I'm interested in how people have set up their Gemini home screen on nougat. Mine is fairly pedestrian, though I worked to unclutter the status bar, removing as many right side icons as possible.

Status bar apps:

1) Battery Percentage Overlay Pro (didn't like the stock battery icon/percentage)

2) Network Type Indicator (replaces the double sim, hideous eVoLTE icon, etc)

3) Wifi State  (replaces stock wifi icon)

4) Date in Status Bar Pro

Home Screen

1) Nova Launcher Pro

2) acalendar+ widget

3) Chronus widget (also puts temperature on left side of status bar)

4) Power Toggles

5) Clix icons

6) Pitch Black Wallpaper

Nice, im using nova launcher and chronos pro widget, and am happy with it so far.
I`ve 2 home pages one for astronomy and one for general stuff.
The one thing I'd like to be able to do is change the shortcuts automatically in the dock based on the screen i am on, if anyone knows how to do this please let me know, but i`m happy with how it has turned out so far.

That looks great. Since you clearly know your skies, do you think yahoo is the most accurate of weather services for Chronus?

And kudos for the black wallpaper. Must be a night thing

For the benefit of those of us who are new to Android and unfamiliar with its ways and terms: what do you mean by ‘home screen’?

Do you mean the lock screen that shows when you open the Gemini?  (I disabled that, and have largely forgotten what it looks like.)

Or the launcher screen that you get when you tap the circle button on the right-hand side of the screen?  (I'm still using the default one, which I believe is referred to as ‘Launcher3’.  I've set it up with three screensful of shortcuts to apps, files in Jota+ and AlReader, and Termux scripts.  I still think a more powerful App Bar would render the launcher mostly obsolete, though.)

None of the screenshots above look like anything I recognise…  What are they showing, what do all the various things do, and how might we set them up if wanted?

@gidds: In the case of my home screen (a home screen is the screen that Android shows upon boot; as you've discovered, you can have as many screens as you want), I've listed the apps that I'm running on said screen. SimonTelescopium has an astronomy interest so his home screen apps are connected to that.

It really depends on taste. I don't like clutter on the status bar, so by enabling System UI Tuner, you can remove practically anything and replace icons with other third-party apps that are better built.

Perhaps what looks especially different to you is the use of Nova Launcher (both SimonTelescopium and I use it). It's far more customizable than the stock launcher, starting with the feature that removes icon titles.

But there are a million different launchers and you may find one that suits your needs more than Nova.

@SNi: Portabase! Hadn't known that had been ported to Android. A wonderful app. As Windows CE user, I had to move to HanDBase--there were never a Portabase for CE.

Wow, Portabase...what good memories I have of it.

It works OK, but has some quirks... Not sure why, but Fn plus other keys don't seem to work in Portabase even when I have them working on my Gemini! So no colon, dash, etc. It's annoying but not fatal! I can save my files to the cloud, thus can share databases across my Gemini and desktop.

Is the developer still active? I remember him being very responsive. Perhaps he might respond to your queries about this.

To help anyone wanting to do something similar I've uploaded 3 screenshots with some notes.

Programs used:

1) Nova Launcher Prime - not sure I've actually used any of the prime features but I liked it so much I paid.

2) Chronos pro for transparent weather and calendar events (links to PC Agenda)

3) Elixir Widget for the system info/buttons

4) PC App Bar for quick access to 'tools' (file managers that sort of thing) - (not shown in images)

5) BlueMail for transparent email preview (not shown in images) - I actually use K-9 as I prefer it but the email preview widget looks horrible.

I have button remapper but haven't used it yet

The biggest issue is finding transparent Apps.

Here's mine. I'm using Nova Launcher with a horizontal layout.
