Ethernet port
« on: February 27, 2020, 11:31:52 am »
I got myself the Planet USB Hub today. USB ports work, but how do I utilize the Ethernet port under Android.

In termux,

lsusb says that it's a "Realtek Semiconductor RTL8153 Gigabit Ethernet adapter".
And device eth0 does appear.

However, is there any other way to configure this than via command line?

LOL,

A couple weeks ago, we had our cable internet go out and I thought maybe I
could use the same PC dongle to give my desktop a net connection from my
Cosmo...

I also tried everything I could find in droid to try engage the port and share
cell phone data through it.   No luck.  Ended up having fall back on the usual
wifi hotspot.

It would be good to get some guidance on this or even to know PC ever got
support for this done (who knows??).

Thanks,

PJS

I actually tested it at one point by connecting a cable. It seems to work, if you
1) Turn off wifi
2) Turn off cellular data
3) Have DHCP enabled in your network.

But I guess you need rooted android (or Linux) to actually do anything complex.

Agreed. I think this is a problem with Vanilla Android. It has very little support for Ethernet. If you want a static IP or something like that, you're in trouble. I'm guessing if you root you might be able to set the Ethernet IP through Termux. But I've never tested.
