Tips on Kismet on C760???
« on: November 11, 2003, 10:26:27 pm »
Hi all,

Does anyone have Kismet working on C760??? I\'ve installed kismet-zaurus-pcap-2.6.0 and kismet-qt-1. I can run it in shell (super user) without warning (with the Network list & status etc screen) but no reading. The Qtopia version gives \"Cannot Connect to Server\" error when I restart (no matter what choices I make)...

This is on,

C760
Jp Sharp Rom
D-Link DCF-660W

Any help/pointers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

this seems to be a common issue with kismet and the zaurus.  although, i guess it would be since \"cannot connect to server\" seems to be the single error message that kismet has.

hopefully this helps you out:

kismet is running great on my 760 (with ambicom card)... I have kismet_2.6.0 and kismet-qt_1.4.0 installed, and when running the gui front end, I just made sure the \"Execute with root privilege\" is ticked (tap and hold on the kismet icon to get options).  and when running it via console, I just su first.

best of luck

hey guys, I had a 5500 before, and i needed to set the ip information to 0.0.0.0 for kismet to detect networks, but now, with the c760, it won\'t allow me to set that ip, just wondering how you have upset your network information to make kismet work on the c760, TIA

Have a look at this :

http://eyrich.net/people/eyrichjf/zaurus/kismet.html

It\'s a little more comprehensive and involved as it will move the kismet install to the SD card, but the network bits and pieces work for me.

To summarise
Set up a network connection in the network applet with valid but nonsense addresses to get the interface up.  Here are some I made up earlier :
In Config
SSID : anything
Network Type : *Adhoc*
WEP off
Channel 1
In TCP/IP
IP 10.11.12.13
Subnet 255.255.255.0
GW 10.11.12.22

If that is the only (or  top) connection in your list of wireless connections then it will be called qpewlan0 (regardless of its friendly name that you type in).  If it is the second it will be qpewlan1, the third qpewlan2 etc. etc.

from a console (you can script this dead easily!)
su
cardctl scheme CardResume
cardctl scheme qpewlan1
kismet_server

now start the qt kismet application and ask it to restart and away you go.  Well, it works for me on a c760 with a netgear ma701! ;-)

PS it\'s easier to eject and reinsert the card when you\'ve finished
