Lots of Questions about 5600 + Oz 3.3.6pre1
« on: May 20, 2004, 02:11:32 pm »
Hi eveyone,

Sorry for all the n00b questions, but my 5600 is my first zaurus, and i have lots to learn.  anyway, on the the questions:

1. how do you implement samba on the 5600 with 3.3.6pre1 - when i was runnign tkc, i had the smbmount that worked very well, but it doesn\'t seem to work with 3.3.6pre1

2. I have installed all the runcompat libraries, and they work, but when i modify the .desktop files, and then try to tun them, they don\'t work (even after reboot and reset) however, when i run the programs from konsole with the \"runcompat whatever\" the proigrams run fine (the only one that worked with the edited .desktop file was kismet_qt)

3. I installed jeode, but when i type evm at console i get a file not found, and none of my nifty java progs will work

4. the majority of things that i do have to run from the konsole...is there any way to write a batch file (like a dos .bat) to automate some of my scripts?

5. is there any ANY program for the z that will crack wep?  I have some perl scripts, but all the links to perl for the z are dead so i can\'t run them...

6. while kismet_qt loads and scans, when i switch to the strings tab and click run, i get nothing.

thats all for now...any help would be appreciated
thanks a lot

I have a partial reply:

First the samba question: Which way are you trying to go?? What is on the other side of the network?? If it is Linux then you can use NFS and share files. It is quite easy to mount a Linux. There is also a note about getting samba itself to work.

Secondly: ssh works very cleanly accross the network. This allows for a full keyboard control of the zaurus.

As to the scripts: Yes bash scripts will do the trick.

1. smbmount was working on my Z.

What troubles are you having?

2. Example of the mods you made?

3. You\'ll need to run the compat program on /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/evm too, that said, I\'ve a feeling it still doesn\'t work.

4. A script is a batch file - again give us an example of what you want to do.

5. and why would you want to do this I wonder ;-). Perl must still be available from somewhere. There are other programs available, most of which are command line - just cross-compile one.

6. Not sure, but it\'s possible that this hasn\'t been implemented.

Regards,

When you run the GUI runcompat, it creates a script for each application which is then called by the .desktop file. This script does the \'runcompat application\' thing.

Try this method, afaik arguments can\'t be passed in the .desktop files (and this is what you\'re trying using your method).
