Can ANYone sync with the 5600?

I\'ll be going back to a paper planner (Franklin) for 2004. Maybe I\'ll sell my Z, maybe I\'ll hang onto it and see what kinda software comes out. But, I\'m with you. Terribly frustrating.

I just bought a Zaurus SL5600 and ran into exactly the same wall as you--- no usb0 connection on my Mandrake 9.0 system.  I\'m going to go the same route as you and install Slackware 9.1 (which you reported successfully set up the usb0 connection) on a partition.

Luckily for me I\'m not so interested in using my Zaurus as a PIM I just want to be able to transfer \'ordinary\' files (eg ascii, mp3, ogg etc.) to and from my Zaurus via usb.  So the Qtopia desktop stuff doesn\'t affect me at the moment.  I share your frustration with the level of support for the 5600 though.  It\'s particularly frustrating that that the usability of this linux-based PDA is being foiled by the use of proprietary PIM files.

Having said that, I want to say thank you for persevering for as long as you did and for asking and answering so many questions on the forum. Reading your messages helped me to figure out a solution for my own situation, so thanks!

-Felicity.

Hi, My handle is cyphactor I am a developer and have been working on Reverse Engineering the Synchronization Protocol for the Zaurus SL-5600 v1.0 and the Zaurus SL-5500 v3.1. I have come a long way but understand that it is difficult to live without sync capabilities. If you would like to check out my work go to http://www.cyph.org/zsrep/.

There IS A TEMP solution, well atleast this is the word around! It seems that KOrganizer a very nice PIM application for KDE has been ported to the Zaurus and people have been using it with joy. The cool thing about this is that it allows for rudamentery syncing. What I mean by that is that both the Desktop and ported version use the same file format *.ics (if i am not mistaken). This means that it allows you to use the Samba on your Zaurus SL-5600 to move the file to your desktop update it and move it back.

Oh and to answer you question! There are not really any good documentation on the DTM. Also the synchronization has a lot more advanced merging that is performed that wouldn\'t be possible with a simple FTP solution.

The goal of my project ZSREP(Zaurus Synchronization Reverse Engineering Project) is to allow a stock Zaurus SL-5600 sync with Linux using my software. I do have certain aspects of synchronization working with ZSREP. It would be nice and go a lot faster if I could obtain some help on this. I am a lone software developer working and going to school so I can get more money!!!!
