Wireless extensions in Cacko ROM / kernel?
« on: June 04, 2004, 08:17:27 am »
Hi

I am using Cacko 1.21a on a C760.

My Buffalo WLI-CF-S11G works fine connecting to my wireless network.

If I want to use Kisment, do I need to replace the kernel with different drivers (I read something about wireless extensions?) to get the WiFi card to go into monitor mode?  Or does the Cacko ROM already have these built in?  What do I need to do?

Kismet is giving me \"etho0 no private ioctls\" ....

Yes, you need to switch to Orinoco drivers to use wireless extentions. Search forums on how to do that - there have been posts.

Wireless extensions in Cacko ROM / kernel?

Thanks.  I\'ve surfed the forums for several hours looking to the answer to this.

I deduce that I need to install the javab0y kernel. Is that right?  But even that is proving difficult, as I cannot find an updater.sh for the Sharp ROM which I have to have on the CF card alongside the kernel.  (The updater.sh that comes with the Cacko ROM doesn\'t seem to want to work alongside the javab0y kernel - it gives me an error that tools are missing.)   I really have tried searching the forums and cannot find how to do this.

Thanks in advance (and especially for the Cacko ROM, which is superb.)

You shouldn\'t need to install a new kernel.  You should follow the instructions in this thread:

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...t=cacko+orinoco

I found this by doing a search for \'Cacko orinoco\' in the \'Sharp ROM\' forum and selecting the \'Search for all terms\' option.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much.  But I don\'t feel much the wiser from this (which I had also found), as in this thread, which is about Wellenreiter rather than Kismet, the posting from toadatrix says that the Hermes drivers do NOT work with Kismet (which is why there is all this stuff about switching back again).    Or have I misunderstood as usual?

Why don\'t you give it a try?
