KDEPim/Pi official announcement
« on: June 18, 2004, 01:57:07 pm »
Hello all,

Zautrix packaged the first alpha version of KDEPim which is a combined package of KA/Pi+KO/Pi.

Berore trying it, be aware that

- the old addressbook plugins do not work.
KO/Pi accesses now KA/Pi.

(It is planned, that later KA/Pi itself uses these plugins)

- KA/Pi have some bugs.
E.g. saving of images do not work.

- Usebility has to be enhanced in KA/Pi.
(Currently no toolbar, no optimal menu structure, not all config possibilities, no docu)

KA/Pi can use VCard format and manage more than one resource.
After starting, you may add resources by settings - configure resources.

If you want to use your old KO/Pi config, copy
Applications/korganizer/config_korganizerrc
to
Applications/korganizer/config/korganizerrc

After the great response and bug reporting with the Ko/Pi project, we decided this time to use sourceforge (www.sf.net) to manage the file delivery, feature requests and bugtracking.

Of course you can ask questions through this forum as well, but it makes our life easier if we can channel all requests.

Again, Version 1.9 is in a alpha state. Because we made changes in the kde kernel, it is possible that new errors within KO/Pi might popup.

So if you find any bug in KO/Pi or KA/Pi , please report it.

The projectsite on sourcefoerge can be found here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kdepimpi

The file page where you can download KDEPim1.9.0:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...group_id=104103

The bugtrackingsystem to report bugs:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=63695...103&func=browse

And feature requests go here:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=63695...103&func=browse

thanks,
Zautrix & Ulf

have fun!

I\'ve had a couple of days with this app.  It is definetly a good start.  I\'m sure zautrix will integrate it better with kopi.  It will be great when they both use the same categories and you could look up appointments by contact.

I used abx2csv to transfer my xml contacts into kapi.  I had to edit both the xml and the resultant csv files to make it work.

I look forward to each new version.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

Hi guys,

Thanks for the great work on this!

Question: can KDEPim co-exist with KO/Pi on the Z?  I would like to try it but don\'t want to muck up my working set-up.  I know I could do a backup/restore (and I will if I need to) but it would be easier if they can co-exist so I could switch back and forth between them, if needed (your statement about the config files seem to imply it might be possible -- different paths, etc.)

Thanks!

KDE Pim includes an improved version of KO/Pi.
It will overwrite the KO/Pi binary.
It will not overwrite your calendar data, of course.

It is the best to deinstall KO/Pi 1.7.x before installing KDE Pim.

Because KDE Pim includes the code of KO/Pi 1.7.x (with improvents ) there should be no risk, that you will loose data when using the new KO/Pi version in Kde Pim.

Hello bluedevils,

the future goal will be to open opie and/or qtopia and/or kaddressbook databases with KA/Pi and KO/Pi. Even parallel work on those addressbooks will be possible.

If you have experienced technical problems with the cvs file you want to import, let us know.  For reporting you can use the sourceforge bugtracking system. It would be great if you could upload a stripped version of your cvs file so we can reproduce the problems.

thanks,
Ulf

Heh.  CSV *not* CVS.  There is not clear path from xml to kapi so I used a script program abx2csv.  It is that script that had problems with newlines in the comment section.  Your import of the csv file worked fine enough for me.  Well maybe add a field for gender.

I will definetly use bug tracking when I have the time.  I look forward to adding picutres as I am horrible with putting names to faces.

I installed the file, but cannot get it to import any data.  I might be doing something wrong but nothing happens when I try.  I have a C700.

I\'d prefer to be able to define my own fields, or at least add some to a basic set of fields

I have the same import failure.  I used the addressbook.xml file from the stock Sharp ROM on my SL-5500 and used the abx2cvs script
http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1430 to convert my data to addressbook.cvs.  It will not import anything.  I can open the addressbook.cvs file with Gnumeric just fine and all my data is there.

bluedevils What did you edit to get it to import?

Ok, got it by using the abx2cvs and then imported to Gnumeric, deleted all the notes, then did the import with KA/Pi.

The import dialog box is a little tough, since it seems to be landscape (C-7/8xx) and I'm in portrait (SL-5500).

Took mucho dragging the dialog box around, but I succeeded, whew!

Yes,

the cvs importbox is far to big in size for the 5500 screen.
I'll put it on our list.

Based on the new name, is there any chance we can see other KDEPIM apps ported?  I'd love to see KNotes and KMail, as well as Kontact for Windows. . .

Not that I'm disappointed, of course- KO/Pi and KA/Pi are fantastic!

Acpkendo,

Zautrix told me that KMail has a very low priority for him, and the same applies for me. So expect nothing in this direction.
I do not know what the advantage of KNotes would be compared with existing applications?

But you are welcome to write/port any KDE application to the Z. Using the microkde libs makes it quit easy to port any KDE app to the Z.

thanks,
Ulf
