Cacko 1.2.1 b: Screensaver password lockout
« on: June 21, 2004, 12:02:36 pm »
I set the password on the screensaver and it worked the first time. I left my Z for an hour and when I try the password I thought I had set it to, it says \"NO GOOD\".
Is there any way I can bypass the screensaver ? I have the Z attached to a Windows box with SSH.

Thanks.

I got it sorted by booting into pdaxrom, mounting mtdblock3 (/home), copying application data to SD and doing a NAND restore of latest backup which happened to be yesterday.

Moral of the story - backup regularly.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone use the screensaver password protection ?

You could have tried to remove the screensaver applet from the SSH terminal and the restart Qtopia.

Where is the password stored?  Just a reboot stopped the lockout, but I wish to reset the password.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

What's the point of a screensaver password anyways? If someone gets their grubbies on your Z, it's gone.

A password won't do much good there.

I think it is useful when you have sensitive info on the Z and it is sitting on a desk.  It is harder for someone to just walk up and access the info.  Especially if they don't know how to reboot it.  I don't think it was ever meant to be a be all, end all of "head of box" security.
