Actually it should be possibly using some of the steps I outlined above (at least it would be on particular ROMs depending on their comms setup). This is all part of the fun and why I hadn't suggested reflashing just yet ;-)

Actually, lardman, on the C860 standard Sharp ROM setup the GUI add/remove is "qinstall" not IPKG.

You are partially correct, the gui application is called qinstall, but it uses ipkg to do all the installation and removal of packages - so if ipkg don't work then qinstall won't work either.

Try renaming ipkg and see how many packages you can install - wont be many
