Network range in SL6000
« on: July 21, 2004, 10:28:53 am »
I'm using Sl6000 to communicate with windows XP PC which has DWL520 adapter(Dlink wireless PCI adapter) trhough ad-hoc mode, but the range is very less.

Earlier I had SL5600 with ambicom wifi cf card which gave me a very good range, but now with SL6000, the range is only a few feet. Since I have a dial-up internet connection, I beleive its not a good idea to get an access point.

Is there any way to extend the wireless range?  And if I get an access point with broadband router (Now that the price is cheaper and availble widely), is there any way to share the internet connection to the zaurus wirelessly?

Thanks for your help.

Network range in SL6000

I just got my SL-6000 and I am having the same problem.  Extremely unimpressive range. Plus it 802.11 only works with non-wep APs.

My first unit refused to even do that and the Sharp folks were gracious enough to FedEx me another.

In NYC at any point my notebook can see 8-10 APs.  Verizon has also wired NYC so that all the phone booths are Wireless APs as well.   With the SL-6000 I have to be literally 10 feet away before it sees the AP.

Pretty Pathetic!  Has anyone got suggestions for modifying the Antenna or code that increases power to the card?

Thanks
