Mplayer on X11 Rom
« on: December 11, 2003, 06:12:25 pm »
Hi,

I was really curious about the X11 rom so I installed it today - great work! This opens a whole lot of new opportunities on the Zaurus.

My first concern with a new installation is always to get mplayer running . I have installed the version from the feed at cacko\'s site and it works ok. But I already have some movies encoded at 320x240 (for my now-sold 5500) and I\'m looking for a way to watch them fullscreen. Unfortunately, the -zoom (and also other) parameters seem to be too slow on the Z. I also tried to encode a movie at 640x480 at the same rate and mplayer is unable to play this reasonably smooth, too.

What can I do? Is there an mplayer option I overlooked? Is it possible to change the resolution of the X11 screen to 320x240 (and how)?

Thanks,
Mirko

Unfortuanantly this is still a handheld, Don\'t expect to play them smoothly at 640x480, just stick with encoding the divx at 320x240. I belive the command line param to make it fullscreen is either -fs or --fullscreen. i\'m at work right now, so i dont\' remember. I\'ll look it up when i get home and also give a link for encoding DivX especially for handhelds.

That\'s right, but -fs will not scale the image, just place it in the middle with a black margin. The params to actually scale the image seem to be too slow for the Z (although I thought it\'d be possible due to the faster processor compared to the 5500), thus my question if it is possible to change the resolution. I tried to look for some config file (XF86Config?) but didn\'t find anything familiar to me in the usual places (well usual for desktop linuxes).

I tried mplayer on X11 but it won\'t start, complaining that it lacks the libvorbisidec library. Where can I find it? I tried one from the oz prject but it was considered corrupted.

It\'s still strange that mplayer isnt capable of fullscreen mode (without the black margins). The speed should be there, since e.g. tkcVideo did fullscreen for me with a reasonable speed.

later i will add vidix driver for mplayer, so it will like kino2 in Qtopia

Does ipkg normally auto-install dependencies?

yes, use local feed from CF/SD or installation from network
