CSV data importing to Addressbook
« on: August 14, 2004, 09:40:22 pm »
Hi all,

I have a huge (well 1,500 records) database that I can only export to a .csv file. I was using this just fine on my Sharp YO-520 Organizer. Now that I have a SL-5500 I am disturbed to find that I cannot get my data into the Zs Addressbook.

What I think may be needed is just an applet to stick the data into the right places in the xml file that Addressbook uses.

I've searched Google etc. Found SafeDee, but that is a program, not a way to get my csv data into Zaurus Addressbook.

Any help?

Thanks!

The Sharp 2.x and earlier ROMs used xml formatted files for storing PIM data, so there were various CSV (and other format) to PIM file converters.  The 3.x ROMs use proprietary DTM format "databases", so the only way to do it directly would be to write a program that knows how to parse CSV files and calls the DTM library to write the data.

An alternative is to import the CSV data first into Microsoft Outlook, then sync the Zaurus.  You can import CSVs in Outlook by File > Import & Export > Import from another program or file > Comma Separated Values
