Kathrin RC2 available now
« on: August 18, 2004, 07:22:51 am »
We are very proud to announce the first public release of pdaXrom 1.1.0 (Kathrin) - this is the second release candidate.
We hope that everybody will test it. Please note that we have not yet updated the documentation on the site but we will do shortly. We have set up 4 different file mirrors to handle the download pressure (a big thanks to those who are donating bandwidth). For an almost complete list of bug fixes and updates see our progress report

Please report any bugs using the bug report on the site. We have updated all bug reports that we have fixed in this RC2. Before reporting any bugs please see the “To be fixed before final release” section of the progress report - these problems shouldn’t be reported.

Btw. While downloading its a good time to consider donating or maybe visit some of our banner sponsors and take a look at what they have to offer ;-)

Instructions for installation would be very nice to have (the size of root partition, the order of steps and so on). Can we use the instructions for RC1?

Yes- can someone pop up what the root size for a 750 should be? This is my first flash, and while I've done ipaqs before, this is the first for the Z.

I choose 57 megs and it seems to have stopped... I'm at the Please wait screen, but the cursor has stopped flashing, I'll re-do it with 50 megs just get something on there.

I read a large thread from Ashley about using his installation to get one whole root- no home-- does this RC1 use that installer?

I did 50 with rc1 and it worked...  the install went to 37mb
I think someone tried 40 and it worked.

the install is still not the final product... but you can use 1.0.5 to get the menu to
repartition, etc.

I hear people saying "120" (121?) is good for 750.

I'm not sure, I may do 64 or 96 or 120 on my 760.

I tried to flash this ROM on a C700 and it wouldnt go.

I repartitioned the flash to 30MB and it gave me an error.(following old instructions) I've flashed other versions before and had no problems.

Please help

EDIT: I'm gonna try with 50MB partition

EDIT(2): OK.. I tried with the 50MB partition and it worked but now all I get is a flashing cursor and Tux.

120? on c750?  I dont think that's possible.. seeing how the c700/c750 has only 64MB of space..

I thought it really has 128, and that the original sharp roms just blocked 64megs for themselves. And  Xpda dosen't do that-- so you should be able to get one giant root partition for the whole ~128 megs. At least, that's how I've read things.

I could be wrong though.

My update on this for the 750:

I tried flashing 50 and 57 megs for root partition and the installer didn't re-partiton.. it seem to just hang at the Please Wait screen.

However, after talking to some people on the Cacko channel, they suggested I try using 121 (megs) to force the installer to create one whole root partition.

This worked for me, and was what I wanted anyways, so now I'm flashing in the new rom image.

Update: Ignore what I wrote up there. Don't use 121 for a 750. I don't know what value to use, but 121 won't work. I've gone back to 50 and it works.

So has anyone got RC2 working on a 750? I get all the way past flashing, it boots and I see Tux, but I just get a flashing cursor that eventaully goes away. No login.

Yes, I got RC2 running on my C750 this morning.

However, I did have to resize my root partition, since for 1.0.5 I had my partition set at 35MB, and this new image needs at least 37MB.  Now, the RC2 setup menu doesn't give you the option to repartition the flash, so I had to download the 1.0.5 files, change the partition to 40MB, then flash with RC2.

Once I had it installed I removed a bunch of packages and brought it down to only 27MB used on my root partition (now that everything is an ipk that can be removed if needed).
