Considering I was going to buy the AV480 today, which does exactly the same, but without the PDA functions that I hadn't even considered for the device (had planned to tote the AV480 and my Zaurus on my commute and ditch my iPod), the idea that I could buy one device which will actually mean I don't even need to take my Zaurus along seriously appeals to me. It would also mean that I wouldn't need my laptop that often, because I images from a digital camera can be stored on it and I would be able to do email and internet on it with my wifi compact flash card, againt negating the need for a laptop.

Don't you just love the way technology is going :-)

Well I have the upgrade from my Zaurus all planned now, though it does mean sticking with Linux on a handheld!

All hail OpenEmbedded!

No keyboard. Can't be used by those of us with fat fingers & disabilities like tremor.

No landscape mode. Hard for old farts with bad vision.

Nope. Sticking with my C860 for now.

Thanks for the heads-up, in any case.

For the Zaurus users, the only missing thing is the keyboard and the swiveling screen but all other features are completely blow up. This device is a dream for most technological geeks who like PDAs format.

Hopping that they will change Qtopia PIM and PIM api and a few other annoying things (theming, documents tab browsing, ... ). I trust them for this. I read some news on french forums.

With the Samsung's Linux-based SCH-i519 smartphone (available to mobile customers in China), this device is the second device I'm watching actively. I'm still unhappy with my Zaurus 760 and still suffer from not using it every day as I was doing with my Psion Serie 5mx. I envy all those Zaurus users happy with their device and happy to play with config files, bugs, incompatiblities, flashing tools, roms and compilers. I'm not a lotus, I can't stay immaculate into mud. Whatever, who care?

Flashed pdaXrom beta 2 thought and still waiting for OE/OZ/OI.

We have one at the office. It uses Qtopia 1.7.1. It is an audio video player. That's all I can say for now.

Are the apps in Qtopia 1.7.1 much better than those bundled with the Z5500?

I saw the Archos400 and Creative(runs MS media center) portable video player side by side in local Frys store here in San Diego. Archos blows away this creative player.

At first glance I suspected Archos could be running linux, but I didn't see any specs about the s/w. Now I know I'm right, it runs Qtopia. It is an awesome device.
