Simple question about networking

Hello !

Can someone tell me the difference between networking through a usb serial connection ans networking trough a usb TCP/IP ?

Do all network based progs work with both kind of connection under Linux and Windows (vlc, vnc, shared internet connection, samba, nfs, etc ...) ?

It's a simple question but the How-tos don't deal with it.

A serial connection is at the hardware level.  TCP/IP is a communications protocol that defines a common format for routing information and sending information over any communications hardware, whether it is ethernet, token ring, fiber optic, or serial connection.  As long as the software exists for communicating via TCP/IP, the underlying hardware primarily determines the speed of the communication.  Some people have gotten samba to work over USB, but I have not tried that.

USB with TCP/IP, not USB serial I presume.

To use any networking or comms app (except for the Sharp supplied ones - and at that, only the ones which came with your ROM), you need to set your Z to use TCP/IP and then install the drivers on the Windows side when prompted.
