unbricking?

Yes I agree. They didn't even send me a statement with the charges on it in the box they sent back! I had to phone twice. I like to have a written statement for my records. I said is this normal practice and again they didn't seem to really be sure!

I am surprised they said $35(+Shipping to repair) since I was always told that it was $50 (+Shipping) for them to evaluate it alone. They then said that if you go ahead with repair then that money goes towards the cost. I said fair enough. In my opinion it seems what they did, was charge me to look at it and then charge me separately for the reflash. rather than including it in the $50 evaluation. I mean come on, during the evaluation they would have to attached it to equipment to do tests anyway, so it's not like it would have been extra effort to reflash it., but I guess they see it as an opportunity to make extra money!

I like this little device a lot. It supposedly is designed more for the enthusiast than a run of the mill PDA user, yet they designed it in such a way that if you do make a mistake with the ROM reflash you are screwed unless you send it to them! I guess they never really intended people to be flashing the ROM every so often!

I really like(d) mine, too. I'm going to get another one anyways and still work on fixing this brick in the meantime, one way or another.
If I have to send it to Sharp, and the cost is less than $100, I may just have to live with that.
Anything more would just be almost senseless.

Still, this is why it would be so great if we could figure out how to do this, not only for ourselves, but for all Zaurus users. It may also be good for the non-Sharp distros as users would confidently re-flash knowing that there was less of a chance that their device would be bricked and require a repair from Sharp.
Particularly as the Zaurus is geared for the enthusiast as opposed to the casual PDA user.

As of yet, I have no new news to report on doing this for ourselves. Any additional info/help would be greatly appreciated.
