Hi --
I\'ll probably be editing this post as I think of things... so I\'ll number my comments/ideas.
I flashed the CACKO X11 ROM on my C700 last night and I do want to say that this is a very impressive ROM. Although I am sure work is at a frenzy pace, I would like to give feedback and suggestions -- not knocking anything with the ROM, just giving some feedback on what I see:
... in no particular order:
(1) Perhaps the main LOGIN screen cojld be made more interesting... perhaps like the MAC OSX login - with icons for users, etc. Perhaps also allow for a pre-login message such as \"if you find this device, please call BLAH\" ... perhaps also a background image. It wouldn\'t take up *that* much room, and this screen is the first thing people see, etc.
(2) How does one add another user other than root? Perhaps a GUI for this for those not deep into linux. Ie: how does one switch between display managers, etc.
(3) Sometimes I get a menu that shows me items such as GAIM, MOZILLA and QUAKE III. Perhaps this is left over from the config from another location. I\'m not sure what keystrokes I do to get this menu on the backdrop screen -- but it domes come up sometimes (button 3 menu?)
(4) gqview. Very nice to have, but it seems to lock the c700 up to where I have to pull the battery.
(5) opaque move? Lets do wire move and spare the poor cpu! perhaps solid move if the delta is small, but then wired move if there is a LOT of movement or the delta is high enough.
(6) the package manager is nice, but perhaps it should have a way to add feeds and switch them on and off via the gui. If you do an install and it fails to download the file, the gui is DEAD from that point -- you need to run ipkg in the command line or wipe the status file, etc.
(7) the default aterm needs to be able to make an 80x24 screen. ie: the font is too large!
(

Perhaps a simple but attractive default background -- even one promoting CACKO.
The screenshots show \"mess with the best\" ... etc... but even 3 tux, or some simple color
+ CACKO logo in the upper right.
(9) The clock application is intersting -- try running it full screen.
(10) ssh installed by default ?
(11) Not sure if missed it, but a battery status indicator for the status bar?
(12) a light dimmer for the status bar -- really simply app/applet that will allow for QUICK
changing between a few light settings (ie: for battery saving, etc).
(13) screen rotation from status bar / menu...
(14) Although the calendar + 1 2 3 is nice... perhaps one of the japanese keys could be
used to just cycle? It would put up the current click-effect as an overlay on the main screen, and then it would be removed after a second or two.
(15) Although calendar+3, right click on screen, calendar +1 is not bad, it\'s still quite
cumbersome... perhaps a menu (argh! start menu?) ... with rotation, screen brightness,
control panel, etc... perhaps
Ah, got my first edit:
(16) Perhaps add a few documents and HOWTOs *directly* on the device? Text is cheap
(ie: compresses well) ... put a FAQ doc on the desktop?! or a DOC folder? This suggestion brought about by the \"recalibration\" questions and RTFF responses.
