Compilation question

Quick question.  I'm going to put hentges 3.3.6pre1 for experimental purposes.  The kernel link on the hentges site links to a section on openzaurus.org that isn't there any more, specifically:

Can I use the OE kernel?  I'm hoping to compile my own to incorporate this patch for sony ericsson phones (if it isn't already there, in which case I'm boned).

Hi,
This is a problem with hentges rom that comes with opie 1.1.3.
Take the hentges rom 1.1.4 T5. This rom includes the new pcmcia_cs that increases stability. The rom comes with new oe kernels. They support the new pcmcia_cs and bluetooth and are also available on hentges site. I don't think that you can use this kernels with hentges/1.1.3
The problem with 1.1.4 hentges rom is that it comes in german. But this is not really a problem since only the calibration screen will be in german, but it is quite intuitiv to calibrate. After calibration you can choose english as default language. After this first boot you can also uninstall the i18n-de package and get free of all german translation.
Be also carefull with the firstboot. You have to take out all cards while first boot. Otherwise a mediummount dialog appears that is oversized and you cant click on ok.

I have recompiled a lot of packages with the original gcc toolchain from OZ 3.3.6-pre1 so they dont need the compat libs.
The kernels we used for hentges rom are the
openzaurus-sa-2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix20030509
not the
 openzaurus-pxa_2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix20031107.oe
So I cant tell you anything about the irda-qos patch.

Thanks for all the info, will definitely give it a go.

I'm afraid in my delight at finding the fix for the biggest problem I have with the zaurus (i.e. dialup over infra red for a sony ericsson phone) I didn't notice the processor version.  I'm using a 5500.
