I thought I saw a reply in the thread where the amazon customer service would just credit you the extra amount.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure (from the price he paid) that he didn't buy from Amazon.

I ordered from Amazon and did get the credit.  I originally paid $679 on September 2nd.  About 10 days later they dropped it to $629 and issued me a $50 credit at my request.  When I started the thread at the end of September Amazon had just dropped the price to $399 and again issued me a credit for the difference.  As before did have to call in to ask for the credit -- no automatic refunds (now that would be sweet but probably too much to ask).

Sorry for the wrong assumption.  You stated it cost you $729 which is above list (and higher than Amazon has ever charged) so I assumed it must have come from elsewhere.  But $679 makes more sense.
