What does everyone use?  Personally, I\'ve stuck with OpenZaurus 3.2.  The first version of OpenZaurus that I tried was 3.0, but then switched back to Sharp ROM 2.37.  However, once OpenZaurus 3.2 came out, I was very impressed with it and have stuck with it since.

I tried out Sharp ROM 3 from OZ 3.2 and liked it a lot.  I needed better SD support.  Both seem to be solid ROMs though.

I\'m using the cacko version of the 3.10 rom, and it seems to fit my bill.  I want to try OZ 3.2 and the Special-K rom, but I just got apache and mysql working... so I probably won\'t switch until I really break something.

Seem extremely stable though.

Hi guys, i am pretty newb in the Z world... I have just upgraded to the 3.10 official Sharp ROM, but interested in trying OZ too.
I have a couple of questions about that. Since I have the Z I realized that I will use it mainly for reading Plucker docs, and listening to MP3. My fav app is Justreader and Xmms. Are they working on the OZ ROM? Almost sure xmms is working, since it is in the distribution.

Also a bit confused about OPIE. What is OPIE exactly? How do I know if an OPIE application will work on the Z? Is OPIE stuff working on OZ?

Couple of questions, but I think there is not much traffic here, so here is something to talk about for you guys

I have tried Sharp 2.37, Sharp 3.10, and OZ 3.2.

There are features that I like with all of them..

I have chosen to stick with the Sharp 3.10 Rom as it seems the snapiest and most stable.
Also I really like the way it organizes the documents in the documents folder.. I dont like the way OZ and the earlier Sharp roms view all the files as a flat file system.. it doesnt make any sense.

OZ is much nicer looking out of the box than all of the Sharp roms, but It boots much slower and seems to be a little bloated with libraries and software that I found I just didnt use.

I am pretty new to the whole Z world. and I am looking at trying the mini-X GUI.  I like the idea of being able to X-host my Z to my computer..

It would be very interesting to get a \"winner\" in the roms selection. I am aware that it should be a matter of personal taste, after all, but maybe the following questions can be answered in favour of a particular rom ?

1) WHICH ONE IS most stable ?
2) WHICH ONE IS FASTEST ?
3) About hardware compatibility ?
4) Low memory footprint ?

Personally, I got a 5500, with wireless compactflash, an ethernet compact flash, a SD 256 mb, and I am planning to buy a modem Compactflash... so I would like an image rom that would embrace all those gadgets with the lesser trouble  I personally am thinking about the Kompany rom... anyone thinks the contrary ?

I personally like theKompany\'s rom best right now... it\'s fast, stable, haven\'t had a single hardware compatibility issue, and it\'s beautiful.

Though I can\'t say that I\'ve given OZ a fair shake yet... my biggest grip is how it handles wifi connections... since I connect to 4 different wifi APs (2 different home connections, starbucks, work), and the best ROM in my opinion for quickly switching between wifi connections is a 3.10 ROM (sharp, cacko, theKompany, etc.).   Though now that I have my 760, I just use that to connect to all my different APs, and can finally try out OZ on my 5500!

Why don\'t you try a few out, and see how you like them... it\'s best to experience the differences so you can make your own judgement.

best of luck!

OZ 3.3.1 can\'t wait for the new kernel so that I can get the speed of 3.10.

Pros just looks more professional
that calender and address book are better.
rotation on the fly (great for pockettop)
and a file system that makes sense.

Cons
old kernel

Well I finally hosed my Sharp 3.10 installation  It was locking up and claiming there was no more memory. When I reboot it, it went into an infinite loop rebooting. 4..3..2..1.. over and over again. Time to try a different ROM out. I\'m going try out the OZ just because I really like to mess with the setup.

I\'ve used Sharp 2.38 and 3.10 and 3.13. I flashed them without any problem. I am currently using the Kompany rom 2.0 alpha. Again no problems with flashing. I like it for the intuitive way I can set up networking with Wifi and Bluetooth.

My gripe with all these roms is the lack of linux synching. However I do manage quite happily with the fb vnc server on the Z and vnc client on the desktop. (Mandrake 9.2)

I have also tried, briefly, Cacko and Hybrid roms.. no problems in flashing.. sometimes difficult to trace documentation though!

I would like to try OZ in any flavour... But I have never, many tries, been able to successfully flash an OZ rom. Yes I have looked at the threads which discuss this and I have downloaded new copies etc. Absolutely no success whatsoever!! I\'m baffled.

tkc seems the best choice for me until I understand how to do the Qtopia 1.6.? twiddles
