KO/PI on Win98
« on: September 01, 2004, 11:01:55 am »
Anyone know if the newest KO/PI 1.93 can be made to load to Win 98. I read it worked with an early version 1.6? What was changed after that edition? I tried every possible combo of Visual basic files I could find and all I get is "runtime errors" abnormal termination. Contact developers. Any ideas on what to get from Win XP for Win 98 to get it to work, it should be backwards compatible. Thanks

Visual basic files?

You need some Visual C++ files (dll libraries) and the Qt dll.
All you need, you can find here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ckage_id=122438

You need the
Needed Windows Dlls
package.

How to install it, you can read in the
Migration-HowTo_OL2KDE

Thanks Zautrix,
I know KO/PI is yours. Sorry to bother you with this since you state it is made for XP.  You must be very busy. I am challenged by this. I read someone had it working on Win98 in an old version(KO/PI 1.6). I downloaded every C++ Visual Basic dll's I could find it it still says abnormal termination. Seems to be related to MSVCR71.dll?
Anyone know if this .dll cannot work with Win98? Any idea what to replace it with? What version of VB was it developed on? Just trying to understand WHY it will not work. Do not really want ot purchase XP, but forced to use Windows at work. Thanks.

Not Visual Basic; Visual C++.

MSVCR71.dll

This appears to be part of the .net VC++ runtime. I'm not sure whether this stuff will run on Win98 (but it would be churlish of MS to assume that everyone has upgraded; wouldn't it? ;-))

Do a google if you can't get it from the link given above, it's certainly available.

Thanks Lardman. I have the file but it does not work tried another source no good either. I need to know what version of C++ was used in development. My best guess is Visual Studio .net? I downloaded framework 1.1 redistributable and still no go. Most perplexing.

Hi,

I installed Ko/Pi 193 on Win98 and all runs quite nice

Just downloaded the DLL's, placed them in the same dir as kopi.exe

I had to create a dir C:/kdepim/... (apps/config/...) to be able to save data and settings
(on my WIN2000 kopi did this)

So I think it should run without additional files

HP-95LX -> HP Jornada 680 -> SL-C860 -> SL-C3100 -> Fuji u810 -> SL-C1000 -> HTC uni -> SL-C860 -> SL-C760.
March 12 2009 : Back because the Zaurus is one of a kind.
SL-C760 : pdaXrom
Pandora pre-ordered -> received and tested : great device but not my cup of tea -> sold.

Thanks Chero, that is exactly the news I needed. It must mean I have a conflict on my system. I will have to re-install win98 and try Ko/PI on the new install. Now that I know it can be done it is worth going through a completely new installation of Win98 and add Ko/Pi first, see that it works and then add my other apps one at a time while rechecking Ko/Pi for conflicts. Thanks

Have you tried creating the dir's first ?
Before I did this on WIN98 I also had runtime errors
Maybe you should give it a try first, before reinstalling win98 and all apps

good luck

Tried to create folders still no good. I created a KDE folder. Put the
 kopi.exe
kapi.exe
microkabc_dir.dll
microkabc_file.dll
msvcr71.dll
mfc71u.dll
qt-mt331.dll
ReadMich.txt
Added another folder under KDE named kdepim with these two folders in it
kaddressbook
korganizer
Does this accomplish what you are saying I should do? If not what am I missing?

No, that does not sove the problem.
You need the folders
c:\kdepim\apps
c:\kdepim\apps\korganizer
c:\kdepim\config

I will try to fix the problem in the next version.

Sorry for my ignorance. What files go in what folders?
c:\kdepim\apps(ko/pi.exe, kapi.exe)?
c:\kdepim\apps\korganizer(kaddress, korganizer folders)?
c:\kdepim\config(.dll's)?

i also had kopi running perfectly on win98 (SE, localized version).
i also had problems, but  making directories solved them.

but i also had several QT  dlls already, and cygwin if that matters, so dont take me as an example.

before reinstalling windows (which might or might not solve it),
try using "dependency walker" (by microsoft).  it tells you if there are missing DLLs or other dependencies for any EXE or DLL.
C860, pdaxrom rc8,
with Gnumeric as the perfect PIM :-)
