documentation wiki?
« on: October 30, 2004, 11:50:52 am »
this is mostly directed to laze, but anyone with some dedicated web space might be able to hook us up.

would it be possible to set up a wiki for documentation?

that way we could all take some responsibility and get pdaxrom docs organized.

i'd be happy to work with whoever can set it up on the initial layout.

this may be what you're looking for

("site sprawl" seems to be an issue here, there's info all over the place...you pretty much have to crawl the site from top to bottom to see what's going on)

Hello,

this Wiki is locked due to vandalism, we need an open one where you can modify entries. I admit that we should avoid fragmentation but I prefer a working wiki over the fragmentation problem since there is a lot of valuable information hidden in the zug forums. I personally have many steps I follow after a fresh install I would like to contribute so I would really appreciate a working wiki.

Regards,

Fabian

We are working on a setup - but we won't be using a 100% open system because of fear of the above mentioned issues - only "admiN" users on the new site will be allowed to edit documentations etc. Other parts like FAQ could be 100% open - i haven't started working on it yet.

May I suggest that even for the documentation wiki,  you enable
everybody to add comment to a page (oddmuse allows this kind of things for instance).

Having a wiki closed somehow defeat the purpose of a having wiki (well it's still provides
an easy way to edit pages for people maintaing the site)

Wiki vandalism becomes a problem only if there is no activity on the wiki, if people
check it often reverting it is easy.

perhaps there would be a way to have it set up so that anyone could submit changes pending approval by one of the admins, that would allow for community work to be added without risk of vandals.

IMHO this is not a good solution, as unless you expect more vandalism than contribution
(which is not the case in say emacswiki) this will give more work to the admins,
and only to the admin while in a wiki everybody can revert a page....

Leave the wiki open at least in the begining, where there might be lots of people contributing (if we are lucky), then if you see vandalism is a problem you can lock the pages.
