Can't get into maintenance menu
« on: November 17, 2004, 12:26:57 pm »
C860.  I can't seem to get into maint. menu.  I do:

1)  Remove battery for several seconds.
2)  Reinsert battery.
3)  Hold D+M
4)  Power on.

Nothing - boots into Cacko.  Any thoughts?

First, leave the battery out longer. Try 5-10 minutes.

If that fails, pull the battery & leave it out. Let the machine set a while. Hold D+M while plugging the AC adapter plug into the power jack. The C860 will not even attempt a "normal" boot with the battery out but it WILL (in my experience) boot the diags menu. Put the battery in & flip the lock switch once you get in the menu.

If THAT fails, do the same thing except hold Fn+D+M. This gets a slightly different service menu, but there are steps to get back to the regular one & then reboot. I'll have to check my notes if you need to do this route.

Let us know how it works.

Actually what I do seems to work every time.

Remove battery.

Wait 5 seconds or so.

Place two fingers on D+M and hold with thumb on other side of Z.

Insert battery and flick the battery lock catch.

Z should now be in service menu so you can release the buttons.

You don't even need to bother locking the battery, so long as D and M are pressed when any form of power is applied it'll go straight to the service menu.

*WARNING* You can damage your zaurus permanently with some of the options in the Service Menu, only use it if you're confident you know what you're doing (just covering my back )
