C860 How-to Install Termainal Application without MS Wiondow
« on: January 04, 2004, 10:10:12 am »
Hi,

I just have my C860 (with Panasonic 256MB SD Card) this new year.  Please help to sort out some new comer questions.

I am using Redhat 9 workstation with 2.4.23 kernel but no MS$ around.   i can ping 192.168.129.201 with no problem. however, when i try to config the Z to display english i am trapped. i tried to change the locale information, however, i am failed because i could not edit the /home/zaurus/Setting/locale.conf as the the default C860 don\'t come with the Terminal installed. I have tried qdesktop 1.7 on linux but i could not connect to the Z (knows feature). So my question is how-to install Terminal without using MS$?

Many thanks!

Card reader?

Samba which I presume the C860 has running try a search here for \'smbmount\' to get the exact format of the command (or look in your man pages).

Mass storage device, your kernel should support this (but I think you\'ll need to enable it on the c860).

Just a few guesses.

Alternatively,
why bother trying to convert it yourself? the languge settings is only a small part of it.

Download the latest cacko rom and flash it.

It will save you lots of time and give loads of extras too.  All the docs for this should be available on this site.

Zaurus cl760, cacko QT rom. Zaurus sl5500 with TKCrom 1.0.

Buffalo WLI-CF-S11G wifi card. Haicom 303 mmf gps cf/seral card.

Peter,

Many thanks for your assistance.

i could not even to copy the files to the SD card because i could not manage to see the mount point of the SD card so i could not follow the instructions to flush C860 with a new ROM.  If i am not using MS$, could you please give me a pointer to copy files into the SD card from linux?

Many thanks again.

I use a cf/sd card reader plugged into my usb port on the pc.

The 860 can be used as a card reader, but you have to set it to do this.

can anybody with a stock c860 post how to enable the card reader software?

i gave up. i downloaded the following ROM, unzip the fiiles, cdrecord the files on a cd then went to a library to flash the C860 with the downloaded ROM using an MS$XP there.

Beside using MS$XP, i am a very happy man now.  Many thanks to the cacko team! the ROM is excellent!

BTW, my next challenge would be able to input German and Chinese concurrently, any hints?
