Zaurus Without Internet Connection
« on: December 30, 2004, 10:00:07 pm »
Browsing the pdaXrom.org bug list, I noticed that the fix for #238,  Remco de Lang's "ctrl and alt mapping to kanji buttons not working", was:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The below procedure requires you to have a working internet connection on your Zaurus.

Please setup the package manager to use the http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/ feed and then exit GUI (matchbox).

Do a "ipkg update" and the a "ipkg upgrade" (make sure you have AC adapter plugged in just to be safe).

This should fix:
 - xmms controller and remote problems with screen blanker
 - keyboard mapping problems
 - ntpd script hanging at reboot
 - problem with setting wifi key on "default" profile
 - some SD card related problems
 - default feed is corrected

Notice: Doing the update might overwrite your personal settings so its a good idea to copy the content of the Choices out from your home directory and then copy them back to keep the settings.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

How does one go about this sort of fix/update for a Z that is not connected to the internet?

Somewhere posted are the exact ipk files that are updated so you can grab them and copy them via sd or cf.

Else maybe mirror the entire feed to a card and set the card as a local feed.

I'd highly recommend getting a wireless CF and net access through. It was a real pain to update via card all the time. Great to sit in bed watching my wife try on new clothes and answer this post

Might consider it if I know how many Mb (Gb?) the feed took up (G).

Good suggestion, but I prefer to keep systems off nets for security sake. Only one of my desktop's hard drives ever is allowed to play online, for example. And I'm not to thrilled about automatic updates where I don't know what is being done & have no control over the process.

Happy 2005 (soon)!

The entire rom will be updated with latest patches and rolled out soon.

Basically you could also browse to http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/?M=D - then download all files dated after 21. december 2004 - installing these files should make it all updated.

Thanks, folks! Much appreciated.

Another question, however. Is the arrow cursor supposed to move when the arrow keys and/or jog wheel are used? (Cause mine don't .... G).

Happy New Year all!

Good! One less worry (G).

Sorry to be a PITA, Laze. My legs are short and the learning curve is very steep.

Thank you!
