Modification Of Polls Without Justification
« on: December 23, 2004, 05:27:13 pm »
Maybe sometimes posts and polls are controversial.

I even know what, and that was the original poll's intention in the topic https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...?showtopic=9556 - and now some nice person (supicion: a mod...) changed it to include a third option which was not planned for. I wanted to get a decision on what *existing* GUI toolset should be kept. Else, I could have started putting in other options like Cacko, Enlightenment etc as well, which wouldn't have helped. Since phpBB doesn't offer the possibility to cast weighted votes, I kept it to two options.

Basically, being mod in another forum, I understand, that sometimes, moderation is needed.

But I usually also post the justification why I did this and that. That's missing here.

I'd like to know who's responsible for this action, and justify his/her actions, either here in public, or by PM.

I added the third option, because I felt it was what people were asking for.  Your poll seemed to be limited.

I agree, I should have PMd you or posted a note as to why I did that.  I usually don't get involved in polls, but this one clearly had limited options.

I would remove that option, but it seems that there are several people who agree that neither should go.

Apologies for the lack of communication.  It won't happen again.

Well it's like any experience: without the neutral test, the experience is not relevant. offroadgeek helped the poll to be complete. Big issue because most people won't want to kill one or the other and will answer 3.

Exactly.

The pont of this poll was to force a decision. If people can avoid to change, they will vote for that option (which, coincidently, is a problem in so many areas, lke Windows, politics etc).

so make two.

poll one says:

IF YOU HAD TO PICK ONE, NOT BOTH, WHICH WOULD YOU KEEP:

( A )
( B )

then:

IF YOU COULD KEEP ONE or BOTH ... WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO KEEP?
( A )
( B )
( C )  BOTH

seems simple.

I SUSPECT:  You'd see most people would choose to keep both, and then you'd also see which
people prefer, if they HAD to make a choice.  Both useful information -- without forcing people
to make a choice based on other assumptions -- like free vs not, community actually coming
together vs another split, support vs not, etc.

I don't have a preference between qtopia and opie -- I like opie because it is free/open -- but now
I'm told that qt is free, what about qtopia?  Anyway, enough of my psycho-babble.
