OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Qpegps 9.2.3.3
« on: October 29, 2006, 03:40:29 pm »
qpegps have, on their sf downloads page, a link to a version of gpsd compiled with softcore (from somewhere during 2003). That version would work with qpegps under OZ.
That said, I will be glad that they'll move on to the new gpsd, but still - I'd like to see the new version compiled to OZ, even with this inconvenience..

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.4.x Upgrades
« on: October 29, 2006, 03:32:39 pm »
Chris,
The latest update to SDL - what is it supposed to fix? Can you detail a bit about it or post a link about the change?

Any work on that is VERY appreciated... many things that I enjoy depend on SDL...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Mplayer + Oz 3.5.4.1 On Spitz?
« on: August 26, 2006, 06:10:24 am »
I've narrowed down the problem - I am trying to use the built-in OpiePlayer2. However, I am unable to encode movies for it - movies which play with mplayer would not play with opieplayer - I would get the sound only.
Futher description of the problem can be found at openzaurus-users mailing list (Mail title: Encoding movies for opie-mediaplayer2 running on   a spitz").
I would just like to know if someone managed to encode & watch movies with opieplayer2.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Mplayer + Oz 3.5.4.1 On Spitz?
« on: August 19, 2006, 11:20:59 am »
I've encoded a movie to a 320x240 , mp3 encoding. I've tried playing it with mplayer on a C3000 machine. However, it uses libsdl which is not functioning too well on this machine.
The -vo fbdev option makes mplayer play this movie in a smaller scale. I found a thread (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20473) explaining how to fix it up for fbdev playing on a C860. However, the problem is that I cannot control mplayer - no stopping, skipping forward or backward. Makes it not really usable even if I manage to view it correctly full screen.

The error spit out from SDL (inside mplayer) is something in the lines of:
Can't detect machine defaulting to SL5000D detected machine is 'Sharp SL-5000D'

Any suggestions? How to make SDL work correctly with this? Or on a different direction - how to encode movies for playing with the built in opie player?

I can't emphasise enough how important on the 2.6 kernels is... It's been a real mess with the old 2.4 kernels, and I've tried compiling some modules.
Just keep up the good work... I'm sure we'll see hardware acceleration sometime.

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Socket Bluetooth Cf Card
« on: August 07, 2006, 05:42:20 pm »
I've tried, but I can't get any good offers - the best one I got was about 85$/card. That's more expensive than I want to get - about 50$ per card, as that's the price they go for at eBay...

Deals and Great Z Buys / Where To Find Socket Bluetooth Cards?
« on: July 24, 2006, 04:06:05 pm »
I thought on buying one, but the main consideration is that the case I have for the Zaurus suits it perfectly, so a card sticking outside of the Z will prevent the case from closing.
It is worth mentioning - although I could not find it on the web - that the case was bought from one of the shops in Barcelona's International Airport Duty Free area. The writing on the case says "Contact Innovation accessories" and fits a C3000 (Persumably also C3100 and C3200) perfectly.

It looks something  like this

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sdl With Oz 3.5.4.1 And A Spitz
« on: July 18, 2006, 01:28:22 am »
I was playing around with the new (and cool) OZ 3.5.4.1 . I have a spitz machine (C3000) and when trying SDL, every SDL program I used would not work well - I'd get it duplicated 3 times over the screen, interleaved with the background.
Apperently SDL patches are quite shaky, but I was wondering if I'm the only one expiriencing this - maybe a reflash would fix some things.
That's what Mickey told about the SDL patches:
Quote
I'm afraid the SDL patch for Qt/Embedded based environment needs _much_
work. It is a pretty ugly mess that grew historically. Starting with the
japanese guys forking SDL 1.2.5 years ago and not contributing their
changes back to mainline. What's worse, they added SharpROM specific
code that was hardly usable for anything other than a Zaurus.

The SDL patches would need a complete overhaul and recreating from
scratch trying to get it into mainline. It's just a question of who's
motivated enough to do that.

Deals and Great Z Buys / Where To Find Socket Bluetooth Cards?
« on: July 17, 2006, 06:03:18 pm »
I am attracted by Socket's small form-factor when it comes to CF cards - There would be no reason to take out the bluetooth card every time I fold my zaurus. The question is - how do I get my hands on such a card cheaply? Each retail site is as high as 90$ (without shipment) and I can't find them on eBay (there's only one for sale going on now). Is anyone familiar with a cheap store for such?

Thanks!

type dmesg to make sure it's got a serial port attached (ttyS3 or so) and it should be fine...

I believe the modem card should be identified as a standard serial pcmcia device (serial_cs module). You may have to run
> cardctl ident
Get the card identifiers and add them to /etc/pcmcia/config as a card mapped to serial_cs module.

Did you try cdrecord with that? I believe I uploaded to somewhere on the site a binary of cdrecord that will suit your needs.
First see if it detects the drive and is willing to burn. Then we can check out on cd problems.

As for restoring NAND - tried that several times, both from the original Sharp's rom as well as a backup I made some time ago. The NAND restore itself worked (my backup had a different kernel, so I know it worked) but I still get the same errors. (cardmgr on boot says something like 'word unexpected').
I did have a partial success - I took the updater.sh from OZ 3.5.4.1-rc2, and added a script that replaces /sbin/cardmgr with the one from mtdblock2's /sbin. However, now the error is the kernel segfaulting somewhere when writing to the microdrive. I do not know why this is, as the R/W tests in the D+M menu do not tell of any HD error.
