Open Embedded / Build Fails With Hostap-conf Dependencies Error
« on: May 19, 2006, 07:56:36 pm »
I have spent the past 4 days setting up OE/Bitbake on my laptop. I have compiled and built my own monotone_0.25-1 deb to make this work properly on my 56K dial-up connection. This is so sad it's funny... I have networked 56K. It is very slow, but I have it working properly now. I have tested it out with bitbaking a (working) nano and a zuc ipk.

Now that I know this works with dial-up (if I don't need the phone line, or die of old age), I though I would make a bigger test. So I did a monotone pull (org.openembedded.oz354x)and update very early today, and then did a bitbake bootstrape-image for a collie. Everthing seemed to be working... and many, many hours later it failed with this error:
Code: [Select]
-snip-
| linux-hotplug: unsatisfied recommendation for pciutils
| linux-hotplug: unsatisfied recommendation for usbutils
| altboot: unsatisfied recommendation for dosfstools
| Nothing to be done
| An error ocurred, return value: 1.

A search on bugzilla found this:

http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=942
It's still open.
Edit: bug#942 is resolved

And this:
http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=828
Where RP makes a comment that 'could' be related? I'm not sure?

What can I do to fix this hostap-conf dependencies error so I can finish this build?

For the record I have used 3.2GB of disk space for everything. With the exception of my slow connection... OE/Bitbake works 'very' fast as compared to one year ago. I should add that I have checked and there are 6 kernels and 1270 ipks in my /build/tmp for this build alone.

Thanks to everyone involved in making this work so well... and so easy to use.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opera7.55 For Oz/opie 3.5.4-rc
« on: November 03, 2005, 11:57:09 am »
Here is a modified opera7.55 ipk that has been requested by some users for use in 3.5.4-RC... I will attach it at the end of this post.

I've simply modified MrSquishy's repackaged opera7.55.ipk extracted from the IBM multimoda.ipk... that has worked for me and many others on OZ3.5.2 official and the Hentges OZ3.5.2 and 3.5.3 versions without problems.

I've modified MrSquishy's opera.ini (that already reflects his directory changes) to increase the cache size that was causing some problems with users.

I've modified MrSquishy's postinst to properly symlink '.opera' and '.operasave' with the new '/media/card/packages/' directory now used.

Replaced a 'couple' of the Crystal icon buttons with the original opera buttons (as per my taste), and the original opera desktop icon from an older opera version.

Repackaged the ipk with ipkg-utils-1.7 for OZ compatibility.

Please note that this is for an SD-card install... and you should remove or edit the postinst for any other install destination.

DISCLAIMER: The instructions and ipk contained in this post are provided AS IS. This has only been tested on the collie and poodle.

Instructions for SD-card installation-

Install the sharp-compat-libs, opie-sh and the qte-font-helvetica-large ipk (or the helvetica size of your choice) from the opie feed.

Copy the attached ipk to your CF-card and open a terminal:
Code: [Select]
cd /media/cf
ipkg -d sd --force-depends install opera_7.55.OZ3.5.4_arm.ipk
cd
ipkg-link add opera
exit
Go to the Settings tab, click "Reload Icons"

Go to the Settings tab, click on Libraries, List, Applications, Opera Browser and click okay.

Click on the opera icon and enjoy.

Please note that because of the latest sharp-compat-libs you may need to click on the opera icon twice to open or close the browser.

I would like to thank and give credit to MrSquishy for originally modifying this.
Edit: I would also like to thank the OZ and OE devs for making this new release.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie-memoryapplet V1.2.0-r0 Problem

Opie-memoryapplet v1.2.0-r0 problem

I really do appreciate the ability to increase the swap file size to as much as 64MB with this release. Unfortunately when you try to generate it with the applet the 5600 freezes, so you have to reset it with the battery switch. Could this be caused by the fact that 'mnt' has been changed to 'media' with 3.5.3 and the applet is still using 'mnt'?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / The 5600 /home With Oz?
« on: January 02, 2005, 10:43:24 am »
This has been discussed on the Zug, irc, and the mailing list but there has never really been a clean solution. I know that none of the developers have a 5600, but it seems to me that the c-750 partitions are very similar. I also know that a single partition would be a kernel hack that the developers don't want.

That said... would it be possible to move /opt to mtdblock3 where /home is, and home to where /opt is or was? It would seem to make a nice setup... more room for apps without symlinks.

If it's not possible to make it flash that way, could someone give me the proper commands on how to do it... after a new flash so there is less to move? I have to flash now anyhow because I have already failed at my attempt to move it.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie-memoryapplet Request
« on: December 28, 2004, 01:36:38 pm »
@OZ/OE developers

The current opie-memoryapplet_1.1.7 only allows an 8MB swap file. Would it be possible in the next release of OZ to increase that to 16 or 32MB like Anton Maslovsky has done with the qtopia-memoryapplet_1.0.1?

This would be a big help for the zaurus owners with 32MBs or less ram.

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Multiple Versions Of Gcc

From the Zug How-to's
Quote
Note that many of the newer distributions now use GCC3.2 or later as their default compiler. This means that when compiling for the desktop it will not be able to link to the sdk files as they were created using GCC 2.95. To fix this problem you need to install 2.95 for your distribution.

Does anyone have, or know of a simple how-to for installing and using multiple versions of gcc on a linux box? I was looking at graft... but there must be an easier way?

I have a little extra time during the Holidays and would like to try some things without damaging my current setup.

Software / Free-up memory, KTrove!
« on: February 03, 2004, 11:09:17 am »
Here\'s a little app that I found today that I\'m experimenting with on my 5500 and later will install on my 5600 as well: \'KTrove\'
http://www.singlenesia.com/software/ktrove.shtml
This allows most apps to be installed on media cards that caused problems before, and they seem to be starting quite fast.

General Discussion / Low priced_High performance_Linux/Java-Based_PDA

Yeahh...that made you look

I can only speculate as to why the price has dropped suddenly for an SL-5600?The fact is it has from Amazon to ebay $299 or less. That coupled with the fact that tumnus (with the help of ced) has compiled a Very Special kernel that\'s available here at ZUG downloads makes this a great bargain imo. So for those of you thinking about buying one, or if you have one and are dissatisfied with it\'s performance give the special kernel a try. It works with all Sharp based roms (for 5600) and the increase in performance is fantastic.

Damn that sounds like I\'m getting paid for this. No really, I have used this for one week today on my 5600 with the Zynergy-1.1 rom and no problems.

The special kernel is here:

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Kernal Image Question?
« on: November 12, 2003, 01:12:11 pm »
If this is posted here I\'m sorry I can\'t find it. I would like to try OZ on my 5500, can someone explain or link me to the difference between: storage.bin and storage-debug.bin on the Kernel Image d/l.

Thanks
