Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Keyboard stops working

All, I'm having a re-occurring bug that I can't work out (1) What's the sequence of events that triggers it and (2) What's the method to stop it from re-occurring.

I'm not sure if this is a h/w bug (unlikely), an Android bug (more likely), or related to a specific app (most likely) hence I've posted in the general forum....

Symptom: Open up Cosmo, h/w keyboard not responding in any app. Workaround: Reboot device by holding down the [esc] key

Clearly the keyboard is working fine as it always works on reboot, it's some sort of software bug but I can't work out if it's happening on wake when I open the clam shell as it only happens once a day (I don't restart my device unless I have too and will leave it on with clam closed for as long as I can).

Suspicions: (1) It's on wake / sleep when I close the clam whilst using a specific app that doesn't cope well, (2) Its related to MS Word (which was running when the bug occurred this morning) (3) It's still searching for my bluetooth keyboard that's at work whilst I'm at home and it's got it's knickers in a twist.... (4) It's related to some other factor I've not yet discovered.

Any one else got this annoying bug and can shed any light?

p.s. I'm running the standard cosmo Android 9 build v22 single o/s boot.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Punctuation on external keyboard

Does anyone know how to type punctuation on an external keyboard?

I tend to use my cosmo throughout the day as a portable device during meetings etc. and at my desk at other times 'docked' with an external keyboard (USB or Bluetooth) and a USB mouse and HDMI video.

I've noticed that I can't type some characters and punctuation on the external keyboard (either the USB or Bluetooth) e.g. single or double quotes, greater or less than symbols, tildas etc.

The above punctuation chars that I type on the external keyboard usually come out as a forward or backslash or as a pipe / bar symbol leading me to reach to my cosmo to type the problem punctuation directly on the cosmo keyboard (very frustrating when typing up large amounts of text).

Would be grateful how to address or where to find resources.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / What should I do first?

All,

I’m about to receive my brand new Cosmo, what in your opinion are the very first things I should do before I play?

E.g. what do you wish you’d done first? What should I  configure, setup and/or install first on my brand new machine so that I don’t suffer needlessly later on?

I’m thinking that TWRP is the very first thing or is there other backup and recovery tools I should install first?

(Ps I’ve seen the Gemini “Some useful hints” thread, this is more of a “first things first” thread)

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Questions regarding actual real-world usage

Hi,

I've been reviewing the Gemini for some time now and have some questions regarding actual real-world usage (I have a specific use-case in mind), hoping that people here with actual device experience would be so kind as to give feedback...

(1) Instant access from sleep - Opening the clam shell with the previously live application running ... How robust and reliable is this? Is it as reliable as a Psion i.e. works 100% of the time with no lags?

(2) Does Android o/s or the included note taking app support keyboard macros? Note this is a different thing to text shortcuts which require commonly used phrases to 'auto text expand' and don't work with a variety of technical terminology that all starts with the same sequence of letters.

(3) How buggy is the average daily experience? The Psion was an extremely mature platform (bugs and crashes an extremely rare event - almost never especially if you used the in-built apps).

(4) What's real world battery usage like for just a typist / note taker? Can you get more than a days usage without recharging if you turn off the radio? (WiFi and cell and bluetooth etc.)

(5) Lastly - keyboard typing speeds - with enough time could I hope to hit my desktop keyboard speed eventually?
