Fastfpe doesn't have a Makefile in it's dir, so as far as I can tell, I can't use it.

Do you know where there's a patch for said CF card?

EDIT: And what do people mean by "sound?"
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
For sound see here:[a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=23984&pid=167603&st=75&#entry167603]sound[/url]

Not sure if its possible - I think eviljazz's stuff is for 2.4 kernels only at the minute...

Heres a way out there type question - any chance I can install titchy on an SD card?
So I have pdaXii13 running fine on my MD. I would like to try out this titchy thing.....
Got a 2GB SD - say I partition it as 2 x 1GB and stick installer etc on 1 partition and then install to the other? Then when done could use partition1 as /home etc.....
Flaws? Not sure if there is a point in the boot/install where the target hard dirve is sleected/chosen - is there one?

TIA

General Discussion / What Is The Best Rom For The Zaurus For 2007

Any facts or feelings regard relative speed of pdaXii versus debian?
Anything Zaurus specific not work on Debian (sd read&write/wlan/keyboard/usb/resume&suspend.....?)
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=167637\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Speed: haven't done any precise comparison, but my feeling is "very close", at least Debian won't feel sluggish at all compared to pdaX

What work: sd read&write/wlan/keyboard/usb/resume&suspend -- everything Okay in Debian! But many packages may not work in pdaX (such as Evolution and many new or updated programs) or need extensive patching/tweaking/hacking. Package system is pdaX's weakest link.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=167638\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

What about sound? eviljazz recently added a driver for the zaurus sound card to the 2.4 kernel and it rocks - does a suitable module exist on the debian platform? Indeed what kernel are you running on debian?

Will titchy work on a c3000? I'm never sure what various distros put on NAND and how many are happy on just the minidrive (or 16GB CF for those who can afford it!)

thanks

@ZDevil

I just bought a SL-C3200 and I want to start using pdaX... but which one ? Although I have been using Zaurii for some years now I only just started reading the pdaX forums in more detail - it's a nightmare trying to find latest status and which ROM has which features.

I think this kind of discussion is absolutely vital and I agree with your point, we need a community effort to put together decent documentation. Just think how much more meanie and pdaX team could do if they were only coding!! (Sorry guys, we'll let you take a break sometime).

BTW: Angstrom is totally opaque to me; I tried reading through the website but the only way to know anything about it seems to be start installing things. I hope this situation changes.

If you want to use pdaX, just go for Meanie's fantastic pdaXii.
If you want an authentic Linux distro and want to avoid the learning curve, give Debian (titchy linux) a try. It is fast and it uses the official Debian arm packages. (Iceweasel starts in 30 seconds; Evolution runs and starts in 50 seconds ...)
But of course nothing is perfect even though we always want something more perfect ...

pdaXrom Development / Release Included Packages

Can Antix/Meanie provide any stats regarding pdaxrom - would that help given it comes in base(lightand airy)/full-metal-jacket varieties?

Must admit I am a fully loaded person - (emacs user so what would you expect...).

Aside does pdaxrom have full C3000 support yet?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / 3200/860 Power Adaptor Question
« on: August 31, 2007, 05:55:34 pm »
Quote
Recently the power adaptor for my beloved Zaurus 3200 has gone wandering. As a replacement is going to be very expensive shipped to the United States, I thought I'd investigate options closer to home first.

First off, can I use my old 860 power adaptor on the 3200? I'm worried about the two not being compatible and wanted to ask the experts first before trying it, and thus losing my lifeline forever.

Secondly, my searching in these forums has turned up numerous references to the PSP power adaptor being compatible with the 3200's, and Googling seems to confirm this. What concerns me is that most of those reports/confirmations are European, and I'm again worried that there's a difference between the US/UK versions and the possibility of frying my second brain.

Would either of these work? If not, I'll just go ahead and grab an adaptor from an importer that sells them. Thanks!

I regularily use my sons PSP charger to charge my C3000. I also have a 9800mAH PSP secondary battery which works a treat. The PSP and Zaurus share the same connector and thankfully the same 5V requirement.

Go for it. I'm in the UK too.

Do we really need yet another resource?
Meanies ROM page

Could we persuade Meanie to incorporate any additional comments on his original work?
Or maybe moving Meanies docs into a wiki would be a useful long term solution - both to preserve them and also allow others to maintain and contribute?

Also I thought that the Tyrano site had tried to start several wikis on Zaurus stuff already??

I've been using the same card in my C3000 for 2 years without a hiccup .. Must admit I don't use WPA or even WEP. Still trouble free...

Good luck

build 5.4.8 is available for testing.
this release comes with an updated kernel (still 2.4.20 but with extra features)
the sound should be better, battery monitoring should be better, and hostap support is improved, ie some wifi cards that previously were created as eth0 will now be wlan0 and scanning should work so wifi radar should work nicely now. in order to get wpa working, you need to install this package: hostap_driver_0.4.7_3_armv5tel.ipk
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hi Meanie, do  you have the upgrade file (pdaXii13-custom.tgz) available so I can upgrade from 5.4.7 to 5.4.8?

The link at:

[a href=\"http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/tmp/]http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/tmp/[/url]

for pdaXii13-custom.tgz doesn't actually link to the file (if it exists).

Cheers,

The link you quoted  was broken from 5.4.7 onwards.... not sure why.... but have fun with 5.4.8..... Note: I would guess that tarball doesn't upgrade the kernel which you might want to do to get the new sound stuff - it makes a HUGE difference to the sound quality (thanks eviLjazz!)

Wow, I have also posting in that topic!
However I can understand the command line that I have to type.
°set cpu clock speed doesn't  work...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=165900\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I see from your sig you are running pdaxrom - I'm not sure when but certainly 5.4.7 has it Meanie added the capability to cpuoverclock.py to set the clock frequency etc... from the commandline thus:

cpuoverclock.py -c -i 5     #gives 624Mhz on a C3000
cpuoverclock.py -c             #prints out what you need

have fun........

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad it works for you, zedkatuf2.

So the stuff is working on one C3200 and one C1000 running Cacko and two C3200's running pdaXrom. I'm interested in the other models (C3000, C3100) especially. Anybody keen enough to try the kernel and mixer app on one of these models?

Installed on my C3000 with pdaxii13 5.4.7 -kernel and mixer both work fine. Uptime 2.8 days and counting......

Great work and thanks a lot.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mb-applet-powerctrl

I have test in icewm. The bad news is mb-applet-powerctrl can not support icewm.

So I should conside to rewrite it, and make it run. Maybe based on egg tray icon is better choice?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=165278\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I use mb-applet-powerctrl on icewm. It works - it does crash occasionally with a segment fault, and sometimes the icons are very strange (sometimes they just work fine).

I always get "Failed to open /proc/driver/battery/sharpsl_main_battery_voltage".

I have tried meanies compiled version and am currently running my own compiled version.

What is it that doesn't work in icewm?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Angstrom And .pdbs

Angstrom looks oustanding! Kudos to the devs as usual for making it happen.

I have a question. While I would love to upgrade from OZ, one of the major apps I use (both personally and professionally) is Opie-reader. I have spent the last couple of years gathering hundreds of pieces of documentation via plucker for stuff I use on a daily basis. My Collie has become my mobile library.

I have skimmed the repos, but didn't see a replacement for Opie-reader, which is the only tool I have found that will read pdb files.

Anyone got a good way to either read them in Angstrom or convert them to, say, html?

Also, what browser options are available?

Thanks,
--Storm

Don't use Angstrom so not sure but FBreader is great on pdaxrom - does everything cept pdf - if I could get it to do pdf then I would have only one and the same doc reader for all my stuff.

Great!

So is kazekahase up on the angstrom repositories now?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Is going to [a href=\"http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/]http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/[/url] clicking on 'package browser', entering 'kazekahase' and clicking 'search' really that hard?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164210\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I would say not hard but also not much use - nothing I searched for appeared (vi, emacs ) even clicking on a letter - presumably displays all packages starting with said letter returned NOTHING for any letter ... how sad am I that I clicked a thru z.

Is it broken? or is it me  - I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Fedora Core 4?

build 5.4.7 has finally been uploaded.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=163628\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Meanie,
I have finally moved from my own home brewed pdaxii13 like distro to your official 5.4.7 release. I have noticed the following 'funnies':

if I boot without my wifi CF card inserted then the boot process terminates differently than when it is inserted - I don't get the wm selection dialog, my usb devices are not recognised and I just have a console login - startx works but plugging devices in either usb or cf never get recognised.

if I try running mplayer from the command line (for example typing "mplayer *.mp3") the Zaurus hangs.
which mplayer = /usr/bin/mplayer - it appears in aterm window
gmplayer appears to work fine... (when run as gmplayer)
[ok] so running mplayer Firefly-Serenity.avi works just fine.
I used to run mplayer in console mode just cos I like consoles ... guess not anymore...
Which of the 3 mplayers will work for audio files in a console?

This is all on my C3000 - fresh full install - single MD partition - only additional packages are your e17 and zdevils 'emacs'.

Love pdaxii13 - thanks for all your great work. Anything I can do to help debug these issues?
