Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gpe-sketchbook?
« on: August 20, 2006, 10:37:34 pm »
Because I love all the GPE apps so much, I was trying to get GPE-Sketchbook up and running. No such luck.

It tells me it's looking for "libsqlite.so.0" I can find sqlite and sqlite2 - but no libsqlite.

1) Can someone tell me where to find this libsqlite or
2) Can someone suggest another sketchbook

Thanks!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xfce4 And The Menu Key
« on: July 04, 2006, 12:37:52 pm »
I am running pdaXrom Beta 1 on my C1000, and my trusty menu key works just fine.

When I installed xfce4, however, the menu key no longer works.

I've searched the forums and I've checked out my akita.xmodmap files, all to no avail. I have determined that I need to find a way to attach the command "libdesktopmenu" to a key - but how?

Thoughts? Suggestions? Cash payments for no apparent reason? All will be gladly accepted.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gpe-calendar And Libgnutls - Solved!
« on: July 04, 2006, 12:22:22 am »
Ah! I have solved it!

The gnutls package in the Beta 4 feed does, indeed, contain, libgnutls.so.12. Something odd must have happened when I installed it the first time.

Gpe-calendar is now up and running!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gpe-calendar And Libgnutls - Solved!
« on: July 03, 2006, 09:04:00 am »
I realized I asked a similar question in another thread, but as that thread is now 11 pages long, I'm afraid it's too big and confusing for anyone to look at.

I have almost all the GPE-PIM apps up and running - except gpe-calendar.  I dutifully installed all the lib files as instructed by Xromer, but when I try to start it up, I get an error saying it's looking for the shared library libgnutls.so.12

I have the shared library libgnutls.so.11, but not 12. I cannot find a package for libgnutls in ANY of the feeds.

I have also read that various people have gpe-calendar up and running. Could some kind person please tell me where you got libgnutls or what you did to deal with this error?

And let me again express my undying gratitute for all the hard work people put into these apps for us! Many, many thanks!

I've gotten everything to work - except calendar.

I still get the error that gpe-calendar is looking for shared library: libgnutls.so.12

I downloaded the package named gnutls from Xromer's feed - but I still get the error!

Where did you find the libgnutls package that makes your calendar happy?

Thanks!

SUCCESS!

Thanks for all the advice. The best help was found in a threaed karlo suggested. I will copy the best part right here:

Step by step (from Chero):

Download the base file :
http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/....2_armv5tel.ipk

install it :
CODE
# cd /to/where/you/put/the/file
# ipkg install xfce4_4.2.2_armv5tel.ipk

This installed the files in "/", if you want them on SD instead :
CODE
# cd /to/where/you/put/the/file
# ipkg -d /mnt/card install xfce4_4.2.2_armv5tel.ipk

Make sure you have libxml2 on your system, it's in the feed.
Quit matchbox
from command prompt :
CODE
# startxfce4

Now you should be running xfce4

For plugins and additional files, look here :
http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/1.1.0/rc10/chero
http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/.../rc10/chero/old

One more thing to add: I had been running Beta 3 - and none of this worked for me. When I flashed back to Beta 1 - everything worked!

Thanks again for all the help! This is everything I had hoped for with my Z!

*sigh* [...]  I get all manner of errors in the console (996 was the last one I got), but then [...]

Hi,  I tried to help you before, but you ignored my question about whether or not the
default WM runs.  I was asking this before, to see if indeed, any window manager would
run with the way your machine was at that time, after the various installs you performed.

For now, I would suggest posting the first few, or all of the errors.  You may be able to
log them to a file, using "xfce4-panel > sigh.txt 2>&1" and then posting the
contents of the sigh.txt file.  The reason I say might, is that I do not know how XFCE
is implemented internally in regard to output.

Hey there!

Yes, ROX has always run just fine. (I started by installing ROX by itself and playing with it before trying out xfce). Sorry, I thought I had mentioned that in my other post - I'm definitely not ignoring anyone! (I need the help, obviously...)

The error I get tells me that an icon is missing and I should go download it - but this is a new error. It's also the only one. So, I'm going to try resetting all the theme/icons to default and see if this works, now.

If not, I'll post the complete error list.

Thanks again!

*sigh*

So, when xfce loads, my taskbar is blank, but my menu pops up just fine.

I do not have a panel, however. When I open a console and type: xfce4-panel &

I get all manner of errors in the console (996 was the last one I got), but then a dialogue box pops up and says: "There is already a task bar running." (Or something very close to that.)

What did I do now? Or what didn't I do?

Help xfce4 gurus - you're my only hope!

Chero - I did delete the .config and .cache files. No luck.

Late - I DO have rox --pinboard==MYPINBOARD in xinitrc.xfce4

I will copy in paste as soon as my Z charges back up!

Thanks for trying to help!

Thanks for that tip.

A received a whole screen of errors: The first few were problems with xinitrc.xfce4 having a error while loading akita.xmodmap.

Then the following applications all "lost its connection to the display:"

xfce4-session
xfce4-mcs-manager
xftaskbar4
xfdesktop

And libxfcegui4 had an ICE I/O Error.

At the end of a lot of those errors it suggests: "most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application."

I hope that means something to you.

Meanwhile, I'm going to check on the proper path for my akita.xmodmap. THAT I can fix!

Thanks again!

OK - I got the .ipk files and installed them with no problem. (I have no idea where I downloaded those other files from, but they WERE .gz files... go figure.)

Got everything installed and ... same thing. Or should I say - same nothing.

I've got a lovely blue screen with a mouse sitting on top of xfce - and no menu, no panel, no pinboard, nothing.

I have to reset the Z, and when I #startx everything is fine (and Rox is working fine there).

What have I done wrong now?

Thanks again.

Did you pull these down from the feed via package manager or manual?

Did you install libiconv from the beta1 feed?

When you exit out of xfce what error messages do you see?

Running beta3 or beta4?

If you are pulling the packages from mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/chero... you might have some problems.... I had problems with them....

Stable

Experimental

Make sure you dont mix packages... they dont play well...

Thanks for the responses, everyone!

In order:

1) Yes, I pulled them down through feeds - including Chero's.

2) I had Beta 1 installed, so I downloaded Beta 3 and re-flahsed.

However, when I went to the link you gave for the xfce4 files, Package manager didn't see any files. So, I downloaded them manually to my desktop and loaded them on my CF card.

But when I unpacked them, they all showed up as directories - and they wouldn't install.

What have I done wrong? What should I do next?

Thanks again!

I have searched the forums. I have read the how-tos followed links off-site. But I still can't seem to get any window manager to work.

I download the files from the feeds, I install, I change all the lines that need changed, I check to see the files are there - but when I launch Fluxbox or Xfce all I get is a blank screen. No icons, no menus, nothing. No way to open a console, no way to find anything.

After wrestling with with two, I decided to go with Xfce - mostly because the instructions were the most complete. I downloaded the following packages onto my little C1000:

xfce 4.2.2
xfce4-mntplugin 0.3
xfce4-battery-plugin 0.3.0
xfce4-taskbarplugin 0.2.2
xfce4-systray-plugin 4.2.2
xfce4-panelmenu_plugin 0.3.1
xfce4-menu-pdax 0.0.1

(version numbers courtesy of the graphical Package manager)

I've installed Rox. I've entered the magic command:

# rox --pinboard=MYPINBOARD

when i type in "startxfce4" it launches nicely with no errors, the little mouse shows up and I can right-click (shift-click) to Add or Delete workspaces... but that's it. Nothing. Nada. Nil. Nyet.

What am I missing? Please help this poor lost soul!

Thank you!
