General Discussion / Working Tomtom Nav On Angstrom
« on: December 29, 2006, 09:20:57 am »
I think I have all the bits together to give this a go now.
C3100 running OZ (2.6 kernel)
An old TomTom go to get the files from
Bluetooth dongle and bluetooth gps receiver

Are there any detailed instructions on how to get this running? When I tried some the instructions posted earlier on this thread, I didn't get very far, chrooted into /home/tomtom then ran ttn and my zaurus resets. Are there devices I need to create, things like that? Would be keen to have this working, even without sound.

Cheers, Sue

and TomTom navigator now mostly runs on the Zaurus running OZ!

That's great news. Thanks Paul (and masked hacker  ) I've been following this with interest, although haven't been able to spare any time to help so far.

How hard is it to get what is needed from a 300? Would I be able to buy a broken one cheap and copy what's need from there.

Sue

Are they 3.3v??  If they are 5v then I think it will see them, but not be able to actually use them.

Really good point. I forgot to check that and sure enough, they're all 5v.
Oh well. Thanks anyway!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pcmcia Wi-fi Card

I'm trying to use one of my pcmcia wireless cards with my c3100 under the latest pdaxrom (1.1.0 beta3).

I've got 3 of them, SMC2632W, Dlink-650 and ZoomAir although they all report themselves as the same under a cardctl ident, with manfid: 0x0156, 0x0002.

I've tried the hostap and the orinoco drives, but I don't seem to get a device. /var/log/messages has "get dev info on socket 0 failed"

Does anyone have one of these cards working under pdaxrom and what is your configuration?

Cxx0 Hardware / Display Problems
« on: December 22, 2005, 05:55:21 am »
Oh dear. Not sure things are looking good for my little C700. I dropped it into some water about a week ago. I've been hoping as it dried out, things would start working again. Almost everything does apart from the screen. I've done a complete NAND restore to see if that helped, but my screen problems remain.

I don't think it's the lcd itself that is broken. The diagnostic screen has no problems. It displays fine.

When I try the pdaxrom updater, it's readable, but shows some flaws. I few streaks of pixels on which shouldn't be on.

Starting the console from the pdaxrom updater is almost usable.

From the command line in pdaxrom, it's almost readable (just lots of "pixel snow", not the same ones every time) till I get to the bottom of the screen, then need to do a clear and turn the Zaurus off and on.

If I do startx then the whole display freezes and doesn't update. When I tried to start the default Sharp 'ROM' it just froze at the splash screen.

Can anyone guess from this what's wrong, is it fixable, is there a console mode I could use in any of the 'ROMs' that would mean I could at least use my device in a meaningful way, should I just take it apart and have a prod around?

Remember kids, be careful around water.

Sue (who's just ordered herself a C3100, I was looking for an excuse!)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Rc11 For Pxa Devices

There's no need in a new ide-cs module. I believe sometime along the way, the module name was changed from ide_cs to ide-cs. But you still seem to be using old pcmcia config files which were not updated to reflect name change. Just grep for "ide_cs" in /etc/pcmcia/ and replace it with "ide-cs".

Cheers albertr. That did the trick. I copied /etc/pcmcia/config across when I upgraded from RC10 because of my wi-fi card definition. I've edited config now for ide_cs and it works.

Thanks

I don't seem to have the ide_cs module. When I insert a cf card I get
module /lib/modules/2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix/pcmcia/ide_cs.o not available
in /var/log/messages.
Have I done something stupid? I can't believe no-one else has noticed this :-)

I think that aterm is not sending control sequences properly. When I try to run vim or mutt (locally or remotely) I see things like [?1;2[?1;2[?1;2[?1;2cccc and have to kill it because it isn't accepting key presses. Is this a termcap issue?

Answering my own message ....
The aterm problem does seem to be TERM related. It seems to default to a TERM of linux. When I change it to builtin_ansi, it works well. Did the handling of termcap change with this RC? I notice that my backup of /etc from RC10 didn't have an /etc/termcap. Anyway, working now.

Since no-one else seems to have the ide_cs module problem, can someone just send it to me and I'll drop it in and see if it works like that, without my having to reflash.

Thanks,

Other than that. This RC is looking really good!

I have a 64M swapfile on my SD card which is formatted ext3. My results are good. I have a C700 and usually have a few apps up at the same time. firefox, kopi, xmms, a few shells and it works just as you would expect.

if any of the c700 owners out there are having the weird cursor dance, use this to fix it (well it worked for me)

echo 75 > /proc/driver/w100/fastsysclk
Thanks, that worked for my C700 as well. Do we know that just changed? This is the first pdaxrom that I've had the dancing cursor problem on.

I have NEVER seen an adapter that allows a PCMCIA card or device to be used in a CF (or SD) socket. And I *have* looked extensively.

http://www.semsons.com/comflastopcc.html

I've used this for toshiba hard drives, wi-fi cards and gps. Cardbus wont work, but everything else I've tried does.

Perhaps an ldconfig will solve your problem?

I need to do a ldconfig after a reboot to pick up libs on the sd card. Never did hunt down why, thought I'd just messed something up in my config. Might solve your problem?

A relatively decent/recent java + sdk.
I would love to see something newer than the 1.3.1 blackdown. As far as I know (would love to be proved wrong!), there is nothing newer for the arm and X around.

Come on Sun. We are never going to really have write once, run anywhere till you open source Java. Yeah right, like they're reading this ...
