Sharp ROMs / Mplayer1.0pre8, H.264
« on: September 30, 2006, 05:36:38 pm »
I've been playing with H.264 a little while, and wanted to see if it worked on my trusty old C860, which still runs Cacko since I have't found anything with the ease-of-use that Kino2 offers on OZ or the others.

Anyway, I tried to play my files (encoded with latest avidemux into avi with h.264 and cbr mp3) and I get a second or so of the sound, and no video at all.

Running mplayer from command line tells me "Insane cropping not completely supported, this could look slightly wrong..." and "too many threads - error while decoding frame".

So I have three questions:
1. Is the C860 at all capable of playing H.264?
2. If so, what settings should I use? As with all codes, it has up to 100 settings to tweak...
3. Is there an ipk or something out there with latest mplayer (1.0pre8) built for sharp ROMs?

Software / Scummvm For Cacko/sharp Vga
« on: June 24, 2006, 06:18:43 pm »
Great job, when I first tried this with my existing non-compressed COMI it worked fine. However, after following this, I can't seem to get the sound (and the video) so stop from stuttering. Also, all games, including the old ones, seem to run in 640x480 - is that normal?

I assume I must use tremor to get good performance on my C860. I have installed libvorbisdec form the cacko.biz feed, but it makes no difference... how can I see it it's using tremor or not?

A longshot, but does anyone have a HOWTO or something on getting this card to work with WPA-PSK in OZ 3.5.4? I had it working in Cacko by following this, but wlan-ng.opts doesn't exist, and changing wireless.opts accomplishes nothing...

It's identified as a "SanDisk ConnectPlus OEM (0MB)" since it appears to have the same manufacturer id (d601, 0010 or something) and the card gets activated. I can scan for networks and I see my home WLAN.

I suspect it's only a matter of activating WPA, although my AP (DLink DI-624) shows no sign of the Xaurus trying to connect - the logs on the web interface are blank.

wpa_supplicant with a minimal config file (ssid, psk and scan_ssid) shows two networks with the parameters ssid='', wpa_ie_len=0, rsn_ie_len=0 and says "skip - no WPA/RSN IE" on both.

beside from the battery, it's no problem to send you these items.
We can't sell the battery, because it's the homemade type that
"Lauter" sells :battery thread
Reading that thread I'm not sure I'm interested in the battery anymore, will probably just get a standard 1700maH backup battery.

What power connector does the EA-70S come with? I plan on using it in Sweden and the US in the immediate future, and if it comes with a european connector I guess I can just use a passive adapter to a US connector.

Also, how fast does it charge the battery compared to the CE-BC21/22?

If it's just the fax that scares you, send us an email with your
phone # and we'll call you for the number. Visa and MasterCard
are simply not allowing to transmit the security number over the
internet, that's why we have to fax or phone it.
It's not that it scares me, it's that the only place I have access to a fax machine is at work. Not a problem, but annoying.

For Sale / Wanted / Buying Accessories In Eu

WARNING: This post was written at 3 in the morning when the author was tired and a little annoyed.

Been looking at pulster and Trisoft and found some interesting stuff, but got annoyed at the ordering process, so...

Where can I buy the following online in the EU (or, if we're dreaming, in Sweden   )?

 - EA-70S charger
 - CE-BC21 battery charger
 - D-660W WLAN card
 - That slim-but-powerful battery pulster is selling

The trick is that I'd like to avoid the hassle of
a ) Bank transfers (been burned in the past)
b ) Having to fax anything (is this a German thing?)

In short, order with my VISA with no extra side-band info, like I do from, say, play.com.

Accessories / Syncbox Ii
« on: November 13, 2005, 06:52:31 am »
Does anyone know if the SyncBox II is available? The page has been saying "coming soon" for as long as I can remember...

Are there similar devices? I've got a 20Gb HD-mp3-player and a C860 and something like this would make carrying lots of data for my Z a lot easier...

Time for some venting...

I put in an order from Shirtpocket in july, right before their so-called "server problems" or whatever. Came back after to see that my order was still there, but with the wrong address, and the products had been removed from their pages alltogether! That doesn't stop the products from being listed in by order, and apparently, doesn't stop Shirtpocket from charging my VISA either!

And on their contact page (when you can reach it) it STILL says that email is currenly unavailable. What kind of company can't fix their email in 4 months???

Anyway, to avoid international telephone bills, is there still someone from Shirtpocket reading these forums?

Security and Networking / What Cf Cards Work With Wpa?
« on: October 29, 2005, 07:45:46 am »
Been searching high and low for someone/somewhere (preferrably in Sweden) that sells the Socket Low Power / Spectrum24 / Symbol Wireless Networker CF WLAN card. The only one I've found is eXpansys, and they only deliver directly to you during the day which is a hassle if you're at work more than 1h distance from home...

BTW, are all those really different names on the same card? And the orange one is revB, right? As in "not recommended"?

Finally playing Broken Sword on my C860! Thank you!

One thing I couldn't figure out in my very-quick test though - I can enter the menu of Broken Sword, but I can't seem to actually do anything there. Yet I know mouse clicks are working since I can use them in the game.

Running ScummVM 0.7.1 under WinXP with the same datafiles, I have no problems clicking in the menu.

Haven't been using my C860 for some time (except to watch TV shows and movies when I'm travelling) but since access points have popped up around my little town, not to mention at work, I got interested again.

Since I use wireless at home with WPA-PSK, I'd like to know if there are any CF cards that have confirmed support for it. I've read that WPA support is a driver issue but there seems to be some confusion wether it still needs some form of support from the cards hardware/firmware.

Been reading the forums and checking card specs for three hours now without getting that much closer to an answer to this...

BTW, I'm also planning on changing to OZ on my C860 Real Soon Now ™, will that complicate things wrt wifi/wpa support?

General Discussion / Usb Otg With C860 (or Others)?

The iAudio X5 supports USB OTG, and if I understand it correctly other USB storage components can be connected to it to transfer files back and forth. Does this mean you could connect a C860 to the X5 and the X5 would see the C860 as storage?

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.22 Is Available!
« on: January 04, 2005, 06:43:57 pm »
Spoke to soon... the reboot that fixed the sound also made 320x240 playing work just as good as before, faster even.
Will now try a 640x368 file encoded to avoid rotating it and see what happens.

Edit: The pre-rotated file played beautifully! Full C860 resolution, only issue is that audio plays ahead of video sometimes (until the video catches up). But 500kbps in 640x480 looks better than 500kbps in 320x240 IMHO.

1) Wasn't it supposed to be a lot faster? It may be like ev1l said and the mplayer rotation code sucks, but I can't get even a 512x384 (or something) video to play with anything higher than 0.5-1 fps. And that file can't be played without rotating it since it is wider than 480 pixels.

Make sure the following options are set for this video:

 - Rotate Video  - ON
 - Smart Crop  - ON
 - Scale  - ON
 - Resample audio  - ON

Also, what is the bit rate of your video? More that 500Kb/s will be dropping frames.
All of the above are set. I'm playing a 640x368 500kbps video with Vorbis sound (that doesn't play since I tried to run Quake or ScummVM, but a reboot will fix that).

2) My old 320x240-transcoded files play smooth, but oh-so-very tiny. What happened to the Quarter-Image-zoom-thingie that we all knew and loved?

 - Rotate Video - ON
 - Smart Crop - OFF
 - Scale - ON
Doesn't work. Maybe it's something with my video file - when I play it without scaling there's a big green rectangle to the right of it, and if I don't rotate I get part of the video duplicated in that same rectangle.
The same video played fine (albeit slower) on the 1.21 ROM version of Kino2.

Everything look great (except the small bugs and annoyances other people have already mentioned). I just have two questions about Kino2 0.4:

1) Wasn't it supposed to be a lot faster? It may be like ev1l said and the mplayer rotation code sucks, but I can't get even a 512x384 (or something) video to play with anything higher than 0.5-1 fps. And that file can't be played without rotating it since it is wider than 480 pixels.
2) My old 320x240-transcoded files play smooth, but oh-so-very tiny. What happened to the Quarter-Image-zoom-thingie that we all knew and loved?

Also, I tried running Quake, and it shows the init screen with the QT toolbar flickering along the left side of the screen, and doesn't do anything more (waited 5+ minutes).

Of course, ScummVM runs just great, which is the most important thing.

Security and Networking / Internet over USB
« on: November 07, 2004, 12:09:13 pm »
Been looking through the forums for hours now and I'm almost at the finish line...

I have my C860 connected to my WinXP PC via USB TCP/IP networking. I can ping the PC from the Zaurus and vice versa, and I can ssh to my Zaurus from the PC. I can also ping my PC:s real NIC from my Zaurus, but that's where it ends - I can't ping my (Gentoo running Shorewall) server from the Zaurus, or anything else outside of the WinXP machine.

Do I have to add the 191.168.129.* subnet to my firewall, or can I somehow configure my WinXP PC to NAT the Zaurus? I tried activating "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's network connection", but that just sets my real NIC:s address to 192.168.0.1 (which obviously is wrong as the PC is on another subnet altogether). Does windows ICS only work on a PC that's directly connected to the net?

My WinXP PC is 192.168.42.2, my server is 192.168.42.1, and my Zaurus is on 192.168.129.201 (with the virtual NIC at 192.168.129.1). The Zaurus has its gateway set to the virtual NIC, and the gateway of the virtual NIC on the PC is empty.
