Qt/Qtopia / Cross Development On Mac
« on: February 10, 2011, 08:28:11 pm »
I'm interested because I'd like to build a more recent version of MESS for the Cacko ROM. I have a SL-C1000.

I notice this thread is about a year old. It's a long shot that you're still interested, but just thought I'd ask.

General Discussion / Is Cf Wifi Annoying On Every Z Model?
« on: April 30, 2005, 07:57:36 pm »
With the card sticking out, it is very difficult to thumb type while holding the Z; I either have to hold it in such a way as to be constantly bumping (often dislodging) the card with that part of one's hand between thumb and index finger or I have to hold it in a way that makes it very easy to drop.  I don't suppose any clamshell Z support an SD WiFi card?

General Discussion / Is Cf Wifi Annoying On Every Z Model?
« on: April 29, 2005, 10:10:19 pm »
Is there a zaurus model that puts the CF slot on the back of the clamshell? I have a C750 and my WiFi card sticking out the side makes it impossible to type. Or is there a Wifi card that does not project out of the CF slot?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus 3.5.3
« on: April 14, 2005, 04:44:12 pm »
I'm not trying to be mean or negative, but I thought "release" meant that a few people had tried things out and not found too many huge problems.  OZ 3.5.3 is not usable on my C750.

It appears that the package manager still has problems installing more that one or two packages at a time. It seg faults or crashes my C750.  Furthermore, I can't get it to install to SD.  I enter the a path (/media/card/packages) in the config dialog and update descriptions and when I try to install the only choice is still root (/).  Yes, my SD card was mounted.

There is something very odd with suspend.  Sometimes when the C750 wakes up I get an error about a very low battery. But the battery is almost fully charged.  Often, the C750 does not wake up and becomes unresponsive, requiring a reboot (battery removal).

Sometimes the C750 freezes solid when messing with the network config dialog.  I have a Netgear MA701 card.  Since the card is autodetected without a problem, I have stayed away from the Network config dialog.

Why aren't the default fonts a bit larger? Or at least there should be some larger fonts installed by default.  I use opie-reader a lot and it is painful even with the biggest preinstalled tiny fonts.

There is no obvious way to make the microscopic tray icons bigger.  It is just about impossible to
 tap the right one.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Zaurus Ui Freezes If Suspended Too Long
« on: February 15, 2005, 09:31:06 pm »
I remember this problem in pdaxrom way back in july.  Surely, someone has thought of a workaround or fix by now?

I have an SL-C750 and if it is left suspended for more than one day, the touchscreen and keyboard go dead on wakeup.  I guess it isn't a problem with matchbox, since now pdax is using openbox.  Strangely, sometimes the first tap or two after wakeup work and then no more.  The ON/OFF button on the back of the zaurus still works, but suspend/resume does not get the touchscreen/keyboard working.  Removing the battery is the only way to reboot the thing and them everything is fine. At least until I forget to use my Z for a day.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Japanese Support/input Method
« on: February 07, 2005, 06:04:48 pm »
Thanks, I got it working although for some reason the postinst script in the uim package failed to run, saying it can't find gtk-uim-update.  Don't know why as gtk-uim-update was installed to /usr/local/bin, which is on my path, and running it by hand worked.

I have to start uim-toolbar-gtk-tray manually in order to change input methods in leafpad.  I like leafpad just fine, it isn't too big.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Blackdown Java Ipk
« on: February 07, 2005, 10:47:38 am »
I just downloaded and installed:

http://www.double.co.nz/zaurus/blackdown-jdk_1.3.1_arm.ipk

and it seems to work fine.  jSolun pocket planetarium works and so does jMap.  I never really tried too many java apps on the Z because  jeode just seemed too broken.  What are some cool java apps that people are using on their zauri?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Japanese Support/input Method
« on: February 07, 2005, 10:39:41 am »
I am NOT a fluent Japanese speaker, but an English-speaking student of Japanese.   I can read hiragana and katakana, but I recognise about 10 kanji.  So I am not looking to Japanify the whole user interface.  What I am trying to do is just set up one text editor in which I can type and read Japanese UTF-8 documents.  hiragana/katakana/kanji input works for me under KDE on my (US English localized) linux box but using different software than is currently available  for pdax rom.

I was just wondering if anyone who uses the software in the feed below could tell me how.  Someone must be using im-ja to type Japanese.....

I installed the following packages:

http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/jabbath/rc5/ja....1_armv5tel.ipk
http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/jabbath/rc5/im....2_armv5tel.ipk

All I can get to work is Abiword displaying a japanese UTF-8 file I made on my windows machine.

I started im-ja-xim-server, but nothing seems to happen.  I edited its preferences to assign a key to switch input mode to hira/kata/english letters but I can only type english letters.  Actually, I would rather use something a little lighter than Abiword--something like scite, but I can't even switch to japanese fonts with that editor.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Why Make Root Filesystem So Big?
« on: January 31, 2005, 07:19:03 pm »
Has anyone else had a hell of a time getting pdaxrom installed on their C750/700?
I do not understand the problem, but it appears to have something to do with the flash repartitioning.

I tried about 100X to flash RC9 (I had cacko 1.22 before.) and the repartition and flashing seemed to work w/o error, but then the Z would just sit at the Please Wait.. .screen forever.

However, RC 9 installed perfectly after I used cacko 1.22 installer to do the repartitioning and, after shutting down (by removing the battery after reboot), flashing
RC 9.

But my suggestion is that maybe there does not need to be so much stuff preinstalled in the root filesystem?  Why not make that image smaller and let people install stuff (to SD or CF) with the feed, which works very well?  Big SD cards are cheap.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kathrin Rc9 Out..
« on: January 30, 2005, 02:59:55 pm »
Something strange is going on here.  I got it working but I don't understand what the problem is.

After giving up on pdax and deciding to go back to cackoQT 1.22, I rebooted and prepared to install cackoQT.  When I did the flash repartition from the cackoQT installer and rebooted, pdax started fine.  I'm a little confused about what happens during the installation process, so I fear I may have installed some mixture of the two ROMs.

I can't install RC9 on my C750 and I'm worried that it is broken.

I tried following the directions and repartitioned flash to 45MB. Flashing ends w/o error, but after I install (1 in the menu) and reboot, I just get the Please Wait... screen forever.

Some error flashes by too fast to read at the bottom of the screen during unpacking system files, but everything appears normal until I reboot and get stuck at the Please Wait... screen.

I think the error said something like can't cd to /tmp1/home/something...

I tried repeating the process with 46 and 47MB. (Is 47 max. for this device?)
There was no change.

I used the menu to get to the shell one time and at the end of the output of dmesg is some error about bad blocks at some hex number 0xsomething.

I was running cacko 1.22 and things seemed ok before.

Help!

Sharp ROMs / Frodo Useless Without Commas

@cfloland
The post you cite seems not to be there. When I click it, I get a message saying it was not found. Could repeat what it said?

I tried that, but the slash/comma key still does not work in frodo. I poked around the keyboard a bit, shifting and Fn-ing all the keys.  A few strange characters appeared, but still no comma.

It's impossible to load games w/o being able to
type a comma.
