Zaurus - pdaXrom / Need Help - Scim ? Uim ?
« on: April 10, 2006, 01:14:12 am »
Hi,

I am switching from sharp rom to pdaxrom (1.1.0beta2) and have have a question regarding CJK input (esp. C)

I installed scim and it works in dlumes (address book) but it does not work in kopi (the stand alone one as I dont need the other stuff in kdepim).

I read about the uim and installed that from 2or0 feed but still no go.

Can scim be used in kopi or do I need uim ?

Thanks.

General Discussion / Sharp Press release SL-6000
« on: April 01, 2004, 12:37:58 pm »
does the sl-6000 use a new screen ?

Quote
The SL-6000 is one of the first products to include Sharp\'s proprietary CG Silicon view screen. This unique display provides the user with extremely high resolution viewing of both moving and still images. In addition, CG Silicon screens optimize the properties of both transmissive and reflective modes, providing outstanding resolution and clarity under virtually any lighting condition, even bright sunlight.

i know my c760 doesn\'t do well under bright sunlight.

c760 - flashed with c860 rom (unless c860 is not much more expensive)

1. clam shell protects the screen with closed.  tried the g2, didn\'t like it.
2. keyboard is very useable, with or without desk.  when standing, either hold with both hands\' fingers and thumbs-type or hold on palm of one hand and type with the other.  both ways works for me.

Security and Networking / adhoc mode slower then infrastructure mode ?
« on: January 17, 2004, 01:13:24 am »
Mickeyl,

does that (bug in Qtopia/Sharp) explains the slowness ?
btw, there is no low signal message in infrastructure mode.

Also in adhoc mode, I keep getting the \"The signal is low.\" message every few seconds.

I think that answers your question...

I read somewhere that the low signal message is because of issue of signal strength reporting by the driver.

The zaurus is practically sitting next to the nic antenna.

Security and Networking / adhoc mode slower then infrastructure mode ?
« on: January 16, 2004, 11:06:13 am »
Hi,

Using the Socket wifi cf card, I connects to 2 networks.  One to a dlink di-614+ access point (infrastructure mode) and one to a dlink dwl-ag520 nic (adhoc mode).

Other than the mode of connection, other settings are practically identical: WEP, etc.

My observation is that adhoc mode is much slower (gut feels about 10 times) than the infrastructure mode.  Is this inherently so, or perhaps mis-configuration.

Also in adhoc mode, I keep getting the \"The signal is low.\" message every few seconds.

Any advice is most welcome.

Hong Kong / jp/us version of Zaurus?
« on: January 05, 2004, 01:07:03 am »
Regarding Chinses Input/Output, Zaurus is \"Unicode compilance\".

For output, all you need is the proper fonts, try the efonts from http://zaurus.cis92.net/.  Search the forums there on installation guide.

As for input, I mainly need Chinese input for some names and addresses in the address book only.  So I simply use the built-in (very good) CRIM handwriting recognition input.  Although the underlying character code is Japanese, the correct characters are all I need.  For true Chinese inputs, I suggest you search the forums of the above site.
