ok, progress;
I got mgp to start, at least, following your advice.
It still can\'t find some fonts, but at least I can work with it now;
thanks much!

No, no Icon comes up! MagicPoint usually needs X;
I looked in all the /libs you mentioned and could not find libttf ...
still frustrated in NJ ...

Cxx0 General discussions / missing library when using MagicPoint
« on: June 16, 2004, 12:31:22 pm »
I got X/Qt running and am hot to use MagicPoint (which requires X).
I start MagicPoint in an X window and it complains about a missing
shared library
  libttf.so.2
which is from FreeType. I tried (as root) to put something into /lib  but
that appears to be read-only file system, which makes me wonder how
any program could instlall into /lib.
The download window for MagicPoint claims that  the FreeType liibrary
is included in the .ipk! Any ideas? Is it possible to update /lib ?

Progress but a question
I got X/Qt running and am all hot to run MagicPoint for presentations;
I try to start it and it complains about a shared library missing
  libttf.so.2
which is the TrueType library from FreeType. The download window
for MagicPoint claims that the library isincluded in the .ipk file, but
something is not installing...

HMMM, what can I do?
  I tried (as root) to put a new file into /lib  and got a warning about
\"read only file system\", which makes me wonder how any program
could install   /lib/libttf.so.2  which seems to be necessary.
Any ideas

Cxx0 General discussions / easiest X11 route
« on: June 01, 2004, 07:37:19 am »
I am looking for help to decide between X/Qt or Xfree86 on my
sl-c750; I am currently running the 1.21 Qtopia rom fro cacko and
am pleased with it, but would be like to be able to run a *few* x11 apps!
Does Xfree86 come up as a completely separate system?
Any advice/comparsions would be appreciated -- X/Qt seems like a good
idea, but I have seen some horror stories about getting it to
install and run ...
Thanks for any input ...

Cxx0 General discussions / running MagicPoint on a Zaurus
« on: May 11, 2004, 02:23:46 am »
I seem to be making progress, thanks to several
helpful people.
I have X/Qt running, but am not sure how to
start an X11 app, like MagicPoint -- I start the X/Qt
icon and the screen changes and I get a cursor --
what next -- how would I then start an X app which
I want to run??
Also, MagicPoint complains about libttf.so unavailable --
any advice on loading this shared lib module?

Thanks to everyone for the help; I am dying to
run MagicPoint on m Zaurus, since I got my
cfxga mirror tool working ...

Cxx0 Hardware / io-data cfxga card mirror tool
« on: May 09, 2004, 03:28:44 am »
I obtained a video driver CF card from Io-Data and the
\"presenter\" software works fine. However, I tried the
mirror tools (possibly developed for the 5500) called md5500 and
nothing shows up on the screen, even though the program
responds and seems to be running in backround --
any help out there?

Sharp ROMs / difficulties installin Qtopia 1.21
« on: April 18, 2004, 08:31:02 pm »
I am trying to install qtopia 1.21;
I request a flash re-partion to 27MB, then press OK for a re-boot;
at this point it hangs -- never comes out of the \"boot\" phase to
give me the option to install the new rom.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I thought I had \"bricked\" the thing, so did a full NAND restore;
same behaviour ...
advice please!

maslovsky,
any idea when the 1.20 rom will be upgraded to fix the math bug?
there is a package called \"paranoia\" from www.netlib.org which can
be used to check math functions ...
thanks much

Has anyone else observed this? Using NeoCal which comes with
the 1.20 Cacko distribution, try taking the square root of 8;
it is 4.000 !
However, other numbers work correctly!
wow, no idea what is wrong, but I am hesitant to use the calculator at
this point ...

Software / ROM overview requested
« on: January 03, 2004, 02:08:25 am »
As a new enthusiastic sl-c750 owner it would be __very__ helpful to me to
have some sort of overview/comparison of the different ROM options --
I have been able to flash a few different roms, but am still not sure
which one to use.
Speciific points of comparison

  size
  stability (most important to me)
  what apps run under this rom (more or less without difficulty)
  difficulty of developing one\'s own apps under a particular rom environment
      (e.g., do standard Linux X11 apps run unchanged if you re-compile
       them for the Zaurus?)
  availability of documentation for the different roms
  operability on various Zaurus platforms
   communication with the main PC

Is some sort of table format possible?

Has this already been done and I just don\'t know about it?!?
(entirely possible ...)
anyway, just a thought which I feel would be a service to the community ...

Software / wrath of cacko
« on: December 27, 2003, 11:23:27 pm »
Man oh man, I bet I am doing stupid;
several people have told me that they have
no problem running 3rd party apps on a c750
under the cacko rom, but to date I have had
little success. I _did_ get kino2 to run (nicely)
so I am pretty sure the machine itself is ok!
However, all sorts of simpler apps (like opie-reader)
completely flake out -- the portrait-mode screen
seems like it might be upside down -- the icons display
on the bottom of the screen (e.g., the input method icon)
but the _top_ of the screen seems to be where it is
sensitive (i.e., I can activate the keyboard by tapping near
the top of the screen).
But basically, it just hangs.
Maybe someone could describe a specific e-book reader
which they have gotten to work on a c750/cacko, then I could
try the same thing?

Much appreciated ...

Software / cacko rom
« on: December 27, 2003, 06:55:21 pm »
i am trying various \"opie\" apps (e.g., opie-reader) on a sl-c750;
I finally got kino2 to work (IN russian!), but all of the standard
stuff from killfz.de seems to crash!
Have you had better luck?
