Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.3 (hentges T3) - Konq Woes
« on: September 18, 2005, 05:17:55 pm »
Suddenly (I'm sure I did something, but I can't figure out what), the konq button on the Applications tab stopped working. I tried to start it from the command line and got:
Code: [Select]
root@vila:~# /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/konqueror
/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/konqueror: error while loading shared libraries: libpcreposix.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
root@vila:~# find / -name libpcreposix.so.0
/media/card/usr/lib/libpcreposix.so.0
Well, I wasn't quite sure how to go about fixing that, so I thought I'd try to reinstall Konq from the feeds. That didn't go so good...
Code: [Select]
root@vila:~# ipkg remove konqueror-embedded
Removing package konqueror-embedded from sd...
root@vila:~# ipkg install konqueror-embedded
Installing konqueror-embedded (20030705-r3) to root...
Downloading http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.3/feed/opie/konqueror-embedded_20030705-r3_arm.ipk
Nothing to be done
An error ocurred, return value: 1.
Collected errors:
ERROR: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for konqueror-embedded:
         libqte2 (>= 2.3.10-snapshot-20050131)
So, I figured I better stop and ask, before I did any more damage

Help?

- Larry.

I'm afraid not, due to my involvement in OpenZaurus and OpenEmbedded I'm more or less done with hacking on Opie. I promise to take a look at Wellenreiter + recent gpsd this weekend.

Mickey,

I'm very grateful for your work on OE and OZ, I know all of us here are. 3.5.3 is great. I won't whine if you take a weekend off

But... erm... if you don't, gpsd 2.20 is what comes with Hentges - still at Protocol Level 1 (but V2).

Let me know how I can help you. Haven't coded in anger for 10+ years, but I can help with testing on my 5500 + AIRCable + B/T GPS (which I'm quite proud I got working tonight!). I'll be around this weekend.

- Larry.

Hmm... deja-vu, i just thought we had discussed that more than once before... anyway, gpsd changed it's IPC interface and the other programs are a bit slow with catching up. Until they did that, the new gpsd won't work with 'em. You may pester the respective developers if you think this will improve the speed...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=94538\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Is Wellenreiter caught up yet, Mickey? 1.0.5 is what's on the Hentges OZ 3.5.3 rom. Works great except I couldn't get it to listen to my GPS.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Serial Connection Under Opie
« on: September 14, 2005, 01:13:34 am »
Worked like charm. Thanks again, hrw.

Dumped microcom - it has zero documentation beyond "-h". picocom is the (well-documented) bomb.

Now... what GPS application to fool with....

vi /etc/inittab and comment line which run getty on serial port
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=94727\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Very timely! I was just getting ready to fire up my AIRCable and try it with my new BT GPS. Sorry to be so thick... I see two places in my (Hentges-Collie-3.5.3-Opie) /etc/inittab where getty is (might be) run:
Code: [Select]
...
l6:6:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 6
# Normally not reached, but fallthrough in case of emergency.
z6:6:respawn:/sbin/sulogin
S:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 115200 ttyS0
# /sbin/getty invocations for the runlevels.
#
# The "id" field MUST be the same as the last
# characters of the device (after "tty").
#
# Format:
#  :::
#
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
# 2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
...
Do you mean comment out this line:
Code: [Select]
S:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 115200 ttyS0
Thanks for your help!

Oh!... And reboot, after?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Performance Tweaking The Collie (5500) -- Hentges

[...]Is there a preference of brand? Any of them stand above the rest?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Somewhere on the [a href=\"http://zaurususergroup.org/]ZUG website[/url] there's a review of many SD cards - maybe the reviews section? They're still recovering from the power outage in LA this afternoon, so I couldn't find the exact link, at the mo'.

Almost anything but SanDisk, IIRC.

Sorry.

p.s. - Also, make sure it's mounted...
Code: [Select]
async, noatime ...for speediest access. A little risky, yes, but worth it, especially considering the platform. Judicious use of...
Code: [Select]
# sync ... helps to mitigate the risk of using async I/O.

Hentges is the easiest to use and the best initial configuration, but running straight off SD (even with 1Gb) it's just not that quick. Command-line mp3 players skip when playing off the SD (and maybe that's just the speed of the card).

Hunh. I'm enjoying a big ol' pile of MP3s, skip-free with the GUI-based XMMS (which should perform worse than any CLI player) that was included in my Hentges 3.5.3 ROM (Nice, nice work, Coredump!).

Legend has it that SanDisk SDs do not play nicely with 5500s. Maybe try a different brand of SD card - borrow one from a friend or something.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz3.5.3 (collie) On/off Button Problem

< snip >
The stock 3.5.3 image unfortunately also has a bad orinoco module but for a different reason. It  does not have the spectrum_cs "in" it apparently. And of course it has the suspend issue.

So if you don't have a Socket WLAN card, I highly recommend the Hentges image.

My Socket LP CF works fine in my 3.5.3 Hentges Collie (5500). Do you have a 5600 (Poodle)? Just want to clarify, since the OP was talking about the Collie APM problem (which Hentges has pretty much handled, as best I can tell).

Please reply if you got this to work (or, didn't for that Matter).

I've got to try this soon myself and would like to benefit from your scars

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Socket Low Power Wi-fi Under 3.5.2?
« on: February 24, 2005, 01:36:57 am »
Uh-oh. orinoco_modules is already installed. I wonder if my trusty Socket card has packed it in?

I'll need to scare up another CF wi-fi card to see, I guess.

(Later...)

Is the Linksys WCF12 any good? Or at least supported by 3.5.2?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Socket Low Power Wi-fi Under 3.5.2?
« on: February 24, 2005, 01:04:42 am »
Thanks, Mickey. I do seem to recall coredump mentioning that he didn't have a wi-fi card, so that's probably why it isn't in his ROM or SD image. I found it on his feed.

Thanks again, and, as always, thanks for all your hard work on OZ. It really is greatly appreciated.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Socket Low Power Wi-fi Under 3.5.2?
« on: February 22, 2005, 10:52:43 pm »
Up until 3.3.6pre1 days, my Symbol Socket Low-Power 802.11b CF card was a never-fail. It doesn't seem to be recognized by OZ 3.5.2 - it says "unsupported card" in the little card status thing.

Is it just a missing ID for this card? I seem to recall it didn't use the Prism/Hermes/Orinoco driver (at least directly). Is the driver a loadable module to be had somewhere?

Thanks!

p.s. Running Hentges ROM, which rocks, except for this little problem, on a 5500

p.p.s. - A bit more searching and googling  - I'm looking for the spectrum24  and spectrum_cs packages (or at least they used to be called that), but I can't find them in the 3.5.2 OZ feed. Anybody know where those are?

Bash is in busybox, why do you want a separate version?

Clearly, I\'m confused. I thought that Busybox was a subset of bash commands. For example,
Code: [Select]
# rm -rv ... complains about unknown options (not just about it being a bad idea  ). I thought that there was a full-blown bash shell someplace that had all the \"real\" options.

Also, I saw the thread about an OE wiki. Anybody (with half a brain, unlike me) care to join in on an OZ 3.3.6pre1 *user* (not dev) wiki? And who might be willing to host it (my puny DSL is not the place)? I\'ll start a new thread for it, if I get a nibble.

Ab.
