Software / How do I view very large images on a Zaurus?

SL5600 to use in the field. a large swapfile (16 megs on the SD card).  What I cannot do is view large images, bigger than 1600 x 1024 pixels.
This is how I do it. I hope you can find a similar solution.

I have an SL-5500 and no swapfile. I need to easily view images of ACLS algorithms (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).

Viewing large tiff files is too slow. To make viewing image files useful, I created a library of jpeg files. The largest jpeg file is 458kB. The image files open quickly in ImagePad. I can tap and drag to move around the image and follow the flowchart. This works very well. You might convert  your large files to jpeg and give it a try.

Another method: You can open local image files with Opera. Opera allows very useful scaling from 20% to 400%. PDF files with Opera are slow, but jpeg and tiff files open quickly. I don\'t have a tiff file of your size to try. The largest tiff file I tried is 800kB. You can tap and drag in Opera.

I tried the smtp.comcast.net server. Now ASMTP works.
This server has no SMTP 220 continuation lines.

Thanks for the help.

W, that is a detailed protocol. Thanks for the explanation.

I\'ll try for a server solution with the SMTP 220 greeting having no continuation lines.

Read your helpful post. I get the same continuation lines as you describe. Now I understand how the Zaurus mailer fails to authenticate.

On Thursday, I can try a different SMTP server and will post the results here. And tuffmail.com is in my back pocket as a solution.

On the smtpauth.earthlink.net server:
I cannot get anywhere. Do you know the syntax?

220-heron.mail.pas.earthlink.net ESMTP Exim 3.33 #1 Mon, 01 Mar 2004 12:02:06 -0800

It seems the ASMTP server does not accept the user-ID and password credentials sent when the user agent provides authentication information. It must be a limit of the Sharp OS. I put the Zaurus on the shelf and will use the PPC.

Is there another OS I can install that allows sending authenticated email?

I have a SL-5500 with SR3.10. Anyone use authenticated email?

I can send email using the non-auth server. When I use the auth server the message goes to the Sent folder but is not received by the email server. I tried both Authentication settings, i.e., \'Same as incoming mail server\' and \'Log on using\'.

Outgoing server:
Non-authenticated: smtp.myisp.net
Authenticated: smtpauth.myisp.net

I can send authenticated email to smtpauth with a Pocket PC using the same settings.

Do you have any information that may help?

Isn\'t yahoo web mail, like hotmail? I don\'t think that the email program handles web mail. Can you use Opera 6 and go through their web page using mail.yahoo.com to get email?
I use opera to read yahoo email online.
I download yahoo messages with a perl script to Outlook on a Windows PC and synchronize to Zaurus to read yahoo email offline.

I\'ve wondered how security personnel at airports would react when they saw a Zaurus SL-5500 turn on and saw a countdown timer set to 3 seconds.  They would see 3...2...1, then the screen would blank.
You might miss your plane.

I don\'t see any activity at DevNet and don\'t know if this has been posted by someone.

The hosts file on the DevNet server/DNS needs to change to the new IP address. Until Sharp sysadmin does that, modify your local hosts file.

In Windows add this to C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32DRIVERSetchosts
In unix or linux add to /etc/hosts

66.180.235.229 www.zaurus.com

You will be able to login to Zaurus DevNet Forums.

I know you did not ask, but look at this suggestion for easy access to special characters.

Press Fn Space to open the Unicode keyboard. Select special characters with the stylus.

Create a custom keyboard with Customizable Keyboard custominput1.1.0.ipk. Create a virtual keyboard line of any characters.

I have a custom keyboard with these characters:
