Debian / Share The Sources, Guys :)

Cortez, style does not work. cat /dev/input/event1 cast output on my screen, but i can't use the touchscreen. ts_calibrate says "bad argument"

did you try to use your 2.6.23 patched for android kernel with debian eabi ?

Debian / Share The Sources, Guys :)

Hoy !

Since our first tries to use Debian EABI on our machines, we have done lots of work and many things now work. That's  good !

But it could be even better: we often are missing source code, so that we are more or less dependant of the guy who has released his working stuff.

I'm very grateful over these guy, but the thing is, if something is broken or missing, we just have to wait for him to repair/add it...

The other solution is to build everything from scratsh again, but you know as well as me that it is a hard useless work !

Maybe you're wondering about what i want to say in short terms
That's it:

Could you share not only binaries or complete stuff (kernel, rootfs...). ut the sources and steps you made in order to permit us to complete your work ?

I mean, 5o20, we haven't your 2.6.22.9 kernel config file, nor build dir, ...  Let's remember the problem with the missing tkip module. We were dependant on you. And your tkip module, you send to us a couple of days after, doesn't work :/

I think you don't have this build dir anymore, but your next kernels don't run on akita :/

This is not a reproach, but a reflexion in order to be more efficient. If anybody could get any source from a cool work of one of our best haxors like cortez, 5o20, zdevil..., i think we would get a better and better distro on our Z

Cortez, your 2.6.23 kernel, patched for android is working on my C1000. Well, it is booting  I hope this'll get ride of mouse jumping, that i suffer from with 5o20's 2.6.22

But i didn't find the sources, patches, etc... ? are they anywhere ?

If needed, i can open an http/sftp account in order to share files...

Debian / Compiling
« on: January 16, 2008, 09:15:03 am »
hoy mates !

i tried to crosscompile somme appz (i'm working on e17 actually, but it doesn't work :-(), but i didn't succeed to get something easy and handy enought.
I find a way to "natively" compile under a more powerful machine: the key is qemu-arm

it's easy to boot the zdevil debian rootfs with poky's kernel (we also might be good enought to make our kernel with yonggun's patches and config, able to boot on qemu)
then, you have an entire debian armel system with network (nat works out of the box with qemu, you can all well use bridges)

that mean you can let qemu's window on a dirty virtual desktop and connect to debian armel thansk to ssh, then use your terminal emulator as if you where on your laptop or workstation.

in most of the case, downloading sources from apt repositories (apt-get source apps-name) (or from i386 apt-respositories if there's no sources on amrel ones)
and using dpkg-buildpackage are sufficient to get a software ready from your Z

i'll maybe explain it a little more (howto)

is it possible to try angstrom e17 packages? i remember e17 was running great under angstrom... so there's no reason it doesn't run under debian armel....perhaps it needs some patches...

ipks must be uncompressed with ar... we can do that maybe smoothly with globbing or scripts but you still need to download needed packages... and the installation isn't done properly...

I tried your e17 but I got exactly same error with you.

thanks for your try
i'll try to get informations from angstrom

hey !

i got e17 packages compiled for debian eabi (sid) suing edevelop's debian source packages and dpkg-build.
it works very well on debian armel under qemu (using poky's kernel for qemu) but it keeps stuck on "starting fm => fm2" on my Z (splashscreen, and nothing more than the splash's background after some time...)

i straced startx, but there's no error at at the moment that fm2 is starting... and enlightenment process still consume all cpu time...

have you got an idea of how to resolve this problem ?

if you wanna try (maybe it works on a c3(1|2)00 ?), packages are there: http://perso.zecrazytux.net/debs/

i'm very disappointed because it took lots of my time :-(

hey everybody

does anyone know if there's a kernel with ieee80211 tkip support for C1000 ?
youggun's 2.6.22 does not :-(

Here is the ieee80211 tkip module for 2.6.22.9. Just remove 'tar.gz' in the file name.

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

well, it does'nt work :-(
vermagic is different, as the module is for 2.6.22.9 and the kernel is 2.6.22.9-yonggun... I don't know if that's the reason.
I get an error inserting the module: invalid format :-(

can you share kernel sources, pathces and the .config file ?
lots of thanks !

Edit: in fact i think i could build most of my own modules if you give me the module/build directory

i got a kernel.img of about 1.5mo but unfortunatly it doesn't work with my c1000 :-(
Now that's broken :s but thanks to your help i'll repair it and make wifi to work

is it possible to install a new kernel without flashing (and maybe to be able to choose which kernel to boot) ?

Hoy all

As I explained on my blog: http://www.zecrazytux.net/GNU-Linux/Zaurus...x-on-the-Zaurus I got busy for a time... And i did'nt succeed to get clicks working.
I did'nt noticed that a younggun kernel existed for c1000 zauriis.
Lots of thanks for your work zdevil ! it works perfectly !

cool
why e16 and not e17 ? e17 works great under angstrom

cuz i'm using E17 on my laptop and i think that it is a little too heavy for the Z (unless you choose a color only wallpaper, no window effects and so on...)
well, what's new on E ? new libraries: don't think it uses less memory or cpu (on my laptop it takes more than XFCE), wm overall look improved, new applications.
And that's buggy. (at least much more than e16 which is on a stable state) where are the advantages ? i don't care about using bleeding edge apps if i have to spend 3 times more to open a terminal

but i'll certainly make a try

Quote
did you try icewm too ? i wonder if e16/e17 is faster than icewm...
that's fast too. that's ahrd to compare the both... MHO, that's just a matter of choices

hoy m8s !

too late and too much pain for my poor eyes, i need too sleep
so i neither release anything nor write some docs or explanations now...

just wanna say that i could post a working rootfs of Debian Sid running e16 with right click support (well, seems to be, as i get menu/settings then i tap on the desktop with fn/ctrl keys )

i'm very surprise about anything quite important: the speed.
Last time, xfce4 was so slow that i tried to run matchbox, blackbox, and so on. I though that was acceptable, but that EABI wasn't as fast as i had heard.

now, i can tell you that that's uncomparatively faster than pdaxrom or old OABI builds of OE
especielly E16 is even faster than openbox

for now vim is broken, and i need some time to polish that rootfs. but if anyone is interested, i would post it

if anyone knows how to get rid of the "help board" of e16 (explaining what would happen if i do this or that), that'll be very nice to tell me
i also can set up a feed for new compiled eabi packages on my server, which as a low bandwith, but it can be convenient ?

by for now, hope i'll could get up in 5 hours ]

Debian / How To Install Debian On Your Zaurus (obsolete)

Great. I will play with the keys on train on the way home this evening.
So it seems that the stuff after install tarball actually does not 100% work for the Angstrom kernel, am I right?
If that's true, then perhaps it is a good idea to indicate this explicitly.
Could you give me more details of the (in)compatibility between the after install tarball (which are targeted at the yonggun kernel and EABI rootfs) and the Angstrom kernels?

Then maybe in those cases the users need to use the Angstrom stuff (xfbdev, ts).

And the upcoming Poky kernels (by cortez) may add more variables to this debian game...

Up to now I feel most comfortable with the yonggun kernel. Thanks again!

i'm sayin' shit... i run *poky*'s 2.6.21 kernel ! (not angstrom's one)
can't get a right click, that's boring
